City Council approves Spit & Whittle for two months

Brownfield leaders backed a two month extension for the Spit and Whittle event after Joyce Billingsly urged the project to boost downtown traffic. Some council members objected to Sunday shows and a Downtown Entertainment District waiver, with City Attorney Bill McGowan urging ordinance revisions for future waivers. Early voting starts on Texas homestead exemption amendment

Early voting begins Monday at the Terry County Clerk's office for the August 9 constitutional amendment raising the residence homestead exemption by 10000 dollars. The measure allows tax relief and transfer of the limit to another qualified homestead for those over 65 with reductions on homesteads under the cap. Voting runs through August 5 with four ballot boxes in Terry County. Mail-in ballot requests must reach the clerk by August 1.

Brownfield Leads Area With 10 Percent+ Sales Tax Rebate Rise

Brownfield Rodeo Parade Kicks Off July 24 Aboard Anderson Grain

The Annual Brownfield Rodeo, sponsored by the Terry County Sheriff's Posse and Brownfield Chamber of Commerce, opens with a 4 p.m. parade on Thursday July 24. Lineup begins at 3:30 p.m. in front of Anderson Grain Co. on 5th Street with floats or vehicles welcome.Parade proceeds south on 5th Street.

Storm spotters rally as Brownfield observes storms

Emergency Management Team led by Earl Elrod coordinates deputies officers and volunteers to monitor storms across Brownfield Terry County. Spotters trained by the National Weather Service track clouds warn residents and coordinate with the County Judge the City Mayor and department heads as heavy rainfall wind and hail threaten the area. The team reports increased activity this year with above average rainfall and occasional downbursts preceding thunderstorms.

Brownfield Chamber Manager Jackie Moss resigns

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce manager Jackie Moss announced effective August 15 she will leave her role. She expressed continued ties with the Red Shirts and a desire to keep Brownfield improving. Chamber President Mike Holt says a replacement is not yet decided.
