School Board Announces Major Personnel Changes and Budget Moves

Brownfield Consolidated Independent School District board approved 15 new teachers and six resignations, transferring Heasley to Colonial Heights Elementary as principal. The panel also discussed Head Start enrollment, budget status, tax collection record, policy amendments, insurance options, and bids for bank depository and supplies.

Farm Bureau Queen Contest Deadline July 29

The Farm Bureau Queen's Contest closes entries on July 29 as announced by J W Hawkins president. Four contestants—Laurene Hulse Peggy Herron Caria Keight and Linda Guiden—have entered and must be 15 to 22 and related to a Farm Bureau member in Terry County. Contest on August 4 at Brownfield High School auditorium.

Rain Totals 1.3 Inches Amid Brief Flooding

An overnight rainfall of 1.3 inches caused minor street flooding in Seagraves area with water covering Eighth Street and the Draw and Plains Highway near the Plaza Motel. No damage reported though the month’s total rises to 2.6 inches and temperatures reached 98 degrees with two 60 degree readings.

1968 Wheat Program Remains Unchanged

Secretary Freeman announces the 1968 wheat program nearly identical to 1967, aiming to ensure adequate domestic and foreign supplies and protect farm income. Projected 1958 wheat income near 1967/1966 levels, about 5500 to 600 million dollars more than pre Act of 1965 programs. Price-support loan level set at a national average.

All Stars Lose District Title In 16 Innings

The Brownfield All Stars and Lamesa All-Stars battled 16 innings Saturday night with no score after the fifth. Lamesa won by one run as Lenard took the loss and May the winner. Richard Lepird and Charles Hicks led with two hits each among several players. After the game, five Brownfield players joined the All-Tournament honor group.

Sealed bids sought for old Fort Worth post office building

The General Services Administration invites sealed bids for the former Office Building at Fifth and Hill Streets Fort Worth. Bids due 1 pm CDT, public opening at 2 pm. Driverless Cars Involved In Wreck In Brownfield

Police investigated an unusual motor vehicle accident at 522 North Second in Brownfield. A Chevrolet pickup and a second unnamed vehicle were listed as involved with several individuals charged for drunkenness and other offenses, including arrests at 704 Taapka Road and 920 AM on Sunday.

WICC Urges End to Importation of Egypt Cotton

West Texas Chamber of Commerce urges end to importing extra long staple cotton from Egypt. George Hall of Abilene told the House Agriculture Committee that the US buys over 60 percent of this cotton abroad. He argued West Texas could boost production if import restrictions and quotas were removed.

Short Course For Businessmen Set Aug. 1

An Extension service short course for businessmen will be held at the Party House Ars. Aug. 1 from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. with Keant Woolf, Extension auto-business specialist, conducting the program. The course covers business management labor force selling and service credit and the customer and manager clinic. The Westness expansion session is for growth evaluation and diversification. Labor force management includes recruitment training and retention. Selling a service covers vital service aspects. Credit policy and administration are discussed. Grand Jury Recommends Diligence in Checks in Terry County

The Grand Jury, adjourned July 13, released a special report noting lapses by parties handling checks and urging citizens to verify identity and presence during endorsements. It commends local law enforcement in Brownfield for their crime investigations in Terry County.
