Fire officials warn against selling Cracker Balls
Police chief James Tippett announced that selling or using fire works within the city violates the city fire ordinance. Dr John P Jones and Health Commissioner Dr J B Peavy warned that Cracker Balls may be mistaken for candy and violate the Texas Hazardous Substance Act misbranding clause. The U S Army opened its Brownfield recruiting office with a ribbon cutting at the Terry Ephany Courthouse. Mayor C E Ross spoke as Sandra Bevers and Jo Dee Meil assisted. Lt Col E G Martin led Army staff present including Sgt Baker, WAC Sgt Juanita Roberts, and Sgt Bill Jones. Services Slated For Lee Franklin Young
Funeral services for Lee Franklin Young 38 are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Meadow Baptist Church with Woody Switzer officiating Burial follows in Meadow Cemetery under Brownfield Home direction. Young died at 1 30 a.m. Friday in John Sealy Hospital Galveston after a long illness. Born May 4 1927 in Meadow he lived on Old Seagraves Road and was a lifelong Terry County resident. He was a Methodist church member. Survivors include wife Betty three daughters Lee Ann Nancy and Diane all at home his mother Ethel Young of Meadow three brothers J W Meadow Warren Goldsmith Edwin Leesburg Fla and one sister Mildred Dunn of Lubbock.

June Weather Delivers Variety and Dust Storms
June brought varied conditions across Terry County with 3.54 inches of moisture, most on June 11 and a trace on June 20. A 75 mph dust storm on June 7 damaged early cotton and fed stock. Temperatures reached 102 on two days while the month’s low cooled to 55.

Caution Stop Live Warning From Law Officers
Law officers issued a nationwide caution to drive safely during the holiday weekend. A 1949 Chevrolet was stolen from 816 N A Street and recovered with wheels and battery removed. A grocery theft on a Piggly Wiggly lot and a vehicle wreck on Mth and Seagraves occurred Wednesday. one motorcyclist jailed for stop sign violation. A fertilizer tank pump was reported stolen east of Foster Gin. Firework stands were checked and cracker balls confiscated after multiple state injuries and at least one death.

Funeral services for Mrs Lena Cope 73 were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev E F Here ford officiating. She died Thursday evening at Brownfield General Hospital after living in Seminole since 1952.
