Brownfield to House cotton sub-unit offices after farmers vote

Terry County farmers vote to urge the USDA to approve a Brownfield cotton sub-unit office with an estimated $60,000 setup, financed by 50 cents an acre from all farmers and 20 cents per bale classed. 24th Annual South Plains Stock Show Dates Set

The 24th annual South Plains Junior Fat Stock Show will be held March 18 19 20 at Lubbock Panhandle South. Ralston Purina manager in Lubbock named general chairman with Dixon White of Lubbock Cottonoil Company as vice-chairman. The event attracts about 1200 animals yearly with hogs tallying the largest outside Dallas. Over 700 4 H and FFA youths from 29 counties show hogs lambs and steers.

Farm Labor Days Set This Month At Courthouse Depot

The Texas Employment Commission office will sponsor Labor Days each Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Aubrey Jones TEC manager says interviews will be held in the northeast passage of the courthouse offering farmers seeking workers and workers seeking jobs a local chance to connect.

Terry County Declared Major Disaster Area for Feed Aid

Terry County is designated a major disaster area under the federal emergency feed grain hay and roughage program. The designation followed telegrams from Senator Lyndon Johnson and Congressman George Mahon to County Judge Chesshir and FHA Director Hub King. County residents must file with the Farmers Home Administration at 106 North Fifth to obtain feed for the foundation herd through February 15.

Soil District to Adopt Standard Soil Survey System

The Ferry Soil Conservation District will convert from the Farm Plain Soil Survey to the Standard Soil Survey, unifying soil data across the United States. SCS will centralize information, aiding cooperators in conservation planning and pipeline siting. By 1960 TSCD and several nearby districts begin the switch, with Lynn already converted and others transitioning.

Seven Brownfield men returned from Fort Worth where they conferred with Civil Aeronautics Authority officials about the approved City-County Airport 4 miles east of town. The group included Ralph Douglas of Littlefield and several local men who will assist in surveying and site work.

Brownfield Hams Aid Emergency Communications During Storm

Four Brownfield amateur radio operators staffed transmitters and landline links for 44 hours over the weekend to support Andrews Midian area petroleum firms. They relayed traffic between Midland and company offices and handled road, medical, and travel messages while power outages and wells shutdowns affected operations. Operators stressed they serve without compensation and will assist in any emergency.
