Brownfield Chamber Banquet to Feature Will Wilson Speaker

Texas attorney general Will Wilson is set as principal speaker for the Brownfield Chamber of Commerce banquet next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Junior High cafeteria. Tickets cost $1.75. Wilson and Mrs. Wilson will be flown from Austin, with local hosting by Mr. and Mrs. Al Muldrow.

Lions Organize Talent Show For Brownfield Event

Brownfield Lions shape the two night Tournament of Talent on February 21 and 22 at the high school auditorium. Tickets cost 50 cents for students and 1 dollar for adults with 40 acts limited across four divisions. Judges include County Judge Herb Chesshir, a 170 prize pool and 15 registrants so far.

MOD Drive Is Termed Good By Campaign Leader

R V Moreman chairing the March of Dimes drive in Terry and Yoakum counties called the 1957 effort completed. He noted the drive surpassed last year by a small margin and urged residents to vaccinate with the Salk polio vaccine as the season begins. The Terry total stands at 3.59 with Yoakum still to be tallied. The Mothers March led donations at 1345, with VFW 764 Teens Against Polio 597 American Legion 210 and ESA 72 supporting groups.

W. E. Smith Rites Held in Plains Baptist Church

Funeral services for 79 year old W E Smith former Brownfield resident were conducted Monday at the Plains Baptist Church with Rev C E Strickland and Rev C L Coffman officiating. Burial followed in Plains Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home guidance. Survivors include the widow five sons one daughter two brothers five sisters fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Wellman Senior Earns Air Force Academy Appointment

Jerry Carmichael a Wellman High School senior has been named to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs by Senator Lyndon Johnson. He passed entrance tests and will receive a monthly pay and allowances during a four year program toward a bachelor’s degree with potential for a master's later.

Rotarians View Two Films on Soil Management

Brownfield Rotarians will view two sound color films at their weekly luncheon in First Presbyterian Church. Newell Reed urges all Rotarians and others to see these films vital to soil problems. Ground Observer Corps unit plans discussed in Brownfield meeting

Brownfield plans for organizing a Ground Observer Corps unit will be reviewed at a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday session in the South Plains Health Unit. City secretary Jake Geron said a U S Air Force sergeant from Lubbock will moderate. He urged anyone interested to attend as the program aims to boost local GOC membership as part of defense efforts.

Roswell Farmers Back Laboratory Bid for Soils
