MOD Drive Is Termed Good By Campaign Leader
R V Moreman chairing the March of Dimes drive in Terry and Yoakum counties called the 1957 effort completed. He noted the drive surpassed last year by a small margin and urged residents to vaccinate with the Salk polio vaccine as the season begins. The Terry total stands at 3.59 with Yoakum still to be tallied. The Mothers March led donations at 1345, with VFW 764 Teens Against Polio 597 American Legion 210 and ESA 72 supporting groups.

Funeral services for 79 year old W E Smith former Brownfield resident were conducted Monday at the Plains Baptist Church with Rev C E Strickland and Rev C L Coffman officiating. Burial followed in Plains Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home guidance. Survivors include the widow five sons one daughter two brothers five sisters fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jerry Carmichael a Wellman High School senior has been named to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs by Senator Lyndon Johnson. He passed entrance tests and will receive a monthly pay and allowances during a four year program toward a bachelor’s degree with potential for a master's later.
