Mothers March On Polio Tonight in Brownfield

The annual porch light drive returns as Brownfield mothers visit each house to collect polio donations under the slogan Light the way to Victory. The campaign culminates with the March of Dimes dance sponsored by the American Legion, featuring Jack Huddle and his boys, and supports the Terry County polio fund.

Brownfield FFA Teams to Appear on TV Saturday

Brownfield FFA junior and senior Skill teams will appear on KCBD TV channel 11 at 5 30 p m Saturday according to Wes Hicks vocational agriculture instructor The teams won first place at the State FFA Leadership contest at Sam Houston State college The senior team members are Max Miller Jerry Paden and Kelly Mac Sears The junior team members are Avon Floyd Leon Willis and Dixson Latham They will demonstrate plant tissue testing and bactracin pellets in swine production respectively.

J C Powell Brownfield's Outstanding Young Man of 53

J C Powell named Brownfield's Outstanding Young Man of 1953 at the Junior Chamber of Commerce banquet. L G Smith, 1952 winner, presented the honor. Powell, a Dallas native who moved to Brownfield in 1987, earned BA and MA degrees from Texas Tech and held leadership roles in Kiwanis and the Methodist Men over 1953. He served as Scout Commissioner and thanked his wife and father as he accepted the award.

Decide on Increased Cotton Acreage Today

Texas Farm Bureau urged the state PMA committee to allot 1 342 000 acres received from the Agriculture Department directly to farmers. Hub King said farmers could gain up to 48 percent cropland in Terry county, versus 18 percent if allocations route through counties. The State PMA committee meets today at Bryan to decide the distribution.
