A sixth grade teacher at West Ward collects old Christmas cards for annual art classes to repurpose them into useful home objects. Readers are invited to contribute their surplus cards to support student creativity and memory preservation.
Henry C Hank Jordan has been named Western Area public relations manager for General Telephone Company of the Southwest, per Joe H Collyns, director of public relations.
W A Dub Leigon announced Jordan will lead the Western Area programs and activities on community relations local advertising employee communications and public information about the Western Area.
Strategic Air Command to run low level bombing training missions with B 52 and B 58 aircraft near Eunice New Mexico and Friona Texas starting January 29. Radar scoring gear at Eunice and Friona will measure drop accuracy during the simulated raids.
Tickets for the city wide meeting on January 27 sponsored by the Women's League of Brownfield must be purchased today. Proceeds support league programs and community projects.
Funeral services for 72 year old E. D. Duncan will be held at 2 30 p m today at First Methodist Church with Rev. Harley Holloway and Rev. Alby J Cocke rell officiating. Burial in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction. Duncan a Wellman area resident since 1947 died at 7 10 p m Tuesday in Lubbock Methodist Hospital after a long illness. He was World War I veteran moved from Oklahoma to Foster in 1926 then to Wellman 12 years ago. Survivors include wife three sons D D Duncan Jr Borger M A Duncan Rt 2 Brownfield Lester Duncan Black Oak Ark two daughters Mrs T L Smyth Rt 2 Brownfield and Mrs L R Joiner Sea graves two brothers Eles Duncan Voss and Clyde Duncan Powderly 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Jim Neal Seminole Gerald Beavers Wellman Mavis Crestman Wellman T A Crestman Lubbock Tommy Harred Glenn Brown Doyle Floyd Brownfield.
Four Brownfield area districts prepare census counts for the 1969 70 school year with emphasis on children entering first grade. Houston Stevens urges using home district offices and Julie Bowman and Bill Frizzell sell dinner tickets for a 7 p.m. event at Oak Grove Cafeteria featuring Snyder city manager George Patterson who will present slides on downtown beautification.
Brownfield State Bank and Trust Company stockholders elected nine directors including J.O. Gillham Grady Goodpasture Leo Holmes J.B. Knight A.M. Muldrow C.C. Primm Newell A. Reed L.G. Smith J.M. Teague Jr and Bruce Zorns. Gillham was named chairman with Holmes vice chairman and Zorns president. Snell was promoted to vice president.
About 20 members and three visitors attended the Terry County Young Farmers Association meeting at Brownfield High School. John Stockton spoke on 1969 government programs for cotton and grain sorghum and urged planting full cotton allotments in quality fiber for competitive prices. Plans discussed for the Terry County Junior Livestock Show set for March 13 to 15 with swine, calves, and lamb entries, plus a feedlot tour to Friona and Hereford area led by Merlin Speed.
Browni field Independent School District trustees met in the new Colonial Heights library to set an April 5 trustee election for Places Six and Seven while naming an equalization board. They discussed minor policy changes for extracurricular bus trips and lunches for indigent students and reviewed tentative high school plans from architect Herb Brasher.
