Tireless Loss: Man Reports Stolen Spare Tire

Henry Gaston of 202 North Second found his flat tire without a spare when attempting a change. He suspects the 900x14-ply Atlas tire, serial 02647705, was stolen in the past two weeks possibly in Lubbock Lamesa or Midland, valued at $56.

Brownfield Woman Praised At State Republican Session

Mrs. Joseph Fiala of Brownfield attended the State Republican Executive Committee session in Austin as vice chairman of Terry County GOP. The committee elected Tad Smith as state executive director. About 125 officials and delegates from Texas gathered, with Terry County hailed as the "shining star" of Texas GOP organization. John Tower campaign events were announced for Brownfield in February.

Farmer wounded by shotgun while hunting on Route 4

Route 4 farmer L. M. Waters Jr. was pellet blasted Saturday by birdshot while a hunting companion fired at passing birds. Waters, treated at Terry County hospital, sustained non fatal injuries.

Brownfield Water Use and System Details in 1960

Brownfield residents used 491,698,600 gallons of water in 1960. The city, with 3,195 meters, posted a net year profit of 28,000 dollars after depreciation and maintenance. The public school system is the largest single consumer, with Goodpasture Enterprises second. A 1,000,000 gallon main storage tank south of Coleman Park feeds a 150,000 gallon elevated tank and a 100,000 gallon tank behind the power plant, plus two ground tanks to sustain capacity. Nine wells within the city and three more on 250 acres south of the city provide supply, with chlorination and state testing assuring safe water.

Banquet Tickets Mailed for Brownfield Chamber Meeting

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce mails tickets for its annual membership banquet set for 7 30 p m February 9 in the Junior High cafeteria. Tickets cost 250 each and include a return envelope. Decade of Service for Local Selective Service Board Members

Edwin W. Wright of Sundown receives a presidential honor for ten years as an uncompensated member of the Selective Service System. Board 116 in Brownfield serves Terry Yoakum and Hockley counties with Bruce C. Zorns as chairman and Murphy Luna representing Yoakum. The ceremony in Brownfield State Bank Building included Mrs. Luna and Mrs. Wright and featured a certificate signed by President Eisenhower.

Portwood Receives Soldier's Medal for Heroic Rescue

Pfc Russell E Portwood formerly of Brownfield is recommended for the Soldier's Medal for saving a young girl from drowning after a rowboat capsized at Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville Tennessee on July 3 last year. He swam to the child then remained with her until rescue arrives. The 502nd Infantry 101st Airborne Ft Campbell Ky librarian stationed unit notes his selfless act.
