Murder Trial To Begin Here In District Court
A Brownfield Latin American, Avelino DeLeon, will go on trial Monday for the second time in the August 1959 shooting of Frutoso Gutierrez. Jury selection starts 10 a.m. in 12th District Court before Judge M. C. Ledbetter with defense by H. B. Virgil Crawford and prosecution led by Morgan L. Copeland and Monroe Clayton. DeLeon, 37, has been jailed since the fatal shooting on August 28, 1959 in the 500 block of West Hill. he was previously found guilty in February 1960 but granted a new trial. Willie Nelson, 26, also faces trial in this session for the September killing of Willie Lee Fullbright.

Sheriff James Fulford reports a burglary at Murphy Meat Company on Wednesday night. The burglars stole 75 pounds of pork, 36 pounds of bacon, 100 pounds of ham, 30 pounds of salami, 20 pounds of sausage, 60 pounds of bologna and four rolls of pennies.

Pecan venture aims to plant 70 acres in Terry County

J. W. Hargrove 93 Dies in Brownfield Home
J. W. Hargrove aged 93 of 612 North Fifth Brownfield died at 9 55 Wednesday at his home after living in Terry County since 1926. He was a farmer until retirement in 1947. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Calvary Baptist Church conducted by Rev. T H Covington. See No 2 Page 7.
