Lions Hear Girls Town Details At Brownfield Meeting

Brownfield Lions Club heard Marshall Cooper of Girls Town discuss its 1949 origins near Whiteface, growth to 54 girls, and selection limits. Four Brownfield girls currently reside there with aims to expand, funding from private gifts, and invites to visit. The program also covered Lions projects and upcoming events.

Rites Slated For E. V. Gillentine

Funeral services for E V Gillentine are planned for 2 p m Monday at Memorial Chapel of Brownfield Funeral Home with Rev Tom Morgan of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Gillentine 82 died Wednesday night after a long illness. Survivors include his wife two sons J B of San Antonio and Raymond of Brownfield a daughter Mrs Norma Wood in Formosa a sister Mrs Ross Shipman of Seymour and five grandchildren.

Calin Creeps Onto Local Law Scene This Week

Local law enforcement reports a lull after a period of turbulence as thefts and minor incidents surface in Brownfield. A 12 gauge shotgun was reported stolen with possible Meadow origin, plus copper pipe theft at a North 2nd Street residence. An intoxicated individual was jailed on local property charges. Terry County SHD notes three arrests on warrants, including two capias cases with fines due. Two traffic accidents near 6th and Main and East Hester involved minor damages and no injuries.

Graves Elected Chief of Brownfield Volunteer Fire Dept

In the Brownfield Volunteer Fire Department election Bob Graves was chosen as Fire Chief for the coming year. He succeeds Philip Thompson who has served as chief for two years and will take the post after City Council approval. Graves, eight years with the department, previously served as Assistant Chief in 1963. The department has 24 volunteers and three full time staff. Graves and his wife live at 1106 E Buckley with two children, a 21 year old son and a Brownfield High School freshman daughter.

Singing Convention Set Today At 2 30

Sage Terrace Baptist Church on East Tate hosts the Terry County Singing Convention this afternoon with the program starting at 2 30. The event gathers local singers for a community program in the church setting.

The film highlighted aircraft versatility for reaching distant areas and included trout fishing scenes. The luncheon at Pioneer Natural Gas Company Flame Room also discussed the upcoming Oratorical Contest and urged youth participation.
