Burglary Probed as Liquor Busts Rise in Texas County

A Brownfield burglary near Brownfield resulted in about $900 missing plus four large pearls from Milton H. Waggoner’s residence three miles north of town on the Lubbock Highway. Entry was made around 3:30 p.m. when the family was away. Police report multiple liquor arrests by Texas Highway Patrol with seizures including seven cases of whiskey and 16 half-pints of vodka. Officers also handled DWI and curfew violations, vandalism, and other thefts as the county Commission set salaries for officials including a constable and other county positions in a lengthy meeting.

Bob Sewell spoke on weather at Brownfield Kiwanis Club Monday evening. Twenty two Kiwanians attended with guests J. B Marsh and Don Turner. The mid winter conference will be in Fort Worth January 17 18 at Hotel Texas with Willis Weber president and Curtis Beard secretary attending.

A Citizens' Tax Study Committee meeting heard reports from sub committees formed in a prior session. John Kendrick, chairman, said another session is planned for this coming Monday. Dutch Stults of Latham-Stults-Rasch will confer on oil valuations.

Terry Chapter Honored At Texas Young Farmers Convention

A large Terry County Young Farmers delegation attended the Eleventh Annual Convention in Dallas with about 800 attendees. Weldon Mason of Brownfield served as outgoing state president, Kenton Harvey of Azle won the forthcoming year’s gavel, and Roger George of Stephenville was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Texas. The Terry Chapter placed second for publicity, while individual awards went to Brownfield and nearby counties. speakers included Dr. Earl L. Butz and Attorney General Waggoner Carr.

Alliance Ministers Endorse Sunday Funeral Policy

Brownfield Ministerial Alliance drafts a policy limiting or eliminating Sunday funeral services. Twelve members met Tuesday morning and reached unanimous agreement on adjusting funeral rites to ease preparations for attendees and families.

Coin Collecting Talk Boosts Jaycees Banquet Plans

Bob Whitney spoke to Brownfield Jaycees on coin collecting during a luncheon at the Party House. President Mark Wyatt led the meeting as focus shifted to the Outstanding Young Man and Outstanding Young Farmer Banquet set for January 30 with Dr Charles W. Jarvis delivering the keynote.
