County Eyes Airport Purchase on Highway South of Town

Terry County Commissioners hear a petition to acquire land used as an airport south of town for a county airport. A survey report is presented as the county studies need and value, with consideration of federal aid and a session with the City Council. The board also approves funds for fire damage repairs and notes county finances remain solid. Acut Education Council Forms for Winter Forum

Education council organized on Monday electing officers for the year. Members include Mia Wade as chair, Dr. Bob Hosy, Curtis Sterling, and O. R. Douglas with Jim Thompson and others. Discussion covered Japan since 1946 and democracy promotion in the Orient. Next meeting set for 7 pm January 4 at the high school with a China topic. Deadline Extended for Chamber Questionnaires

Chamber of Commerce Directors voted Thursday to push back the return deadline for questionnaires to allow more members to submit recommendations for the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Directors. About 240 cards were sent. only 85 percent responded in 1984, with early returns showing focus on improved recreation facilities and a new retail committee.

Changes in Officers at Brownfield State Bank and Trust Co

At the annual meeting directors installed four changes in Brownfield State Bank and Trust Co officers. G Gillham remains president. J Q Gillham re-elected president and chairman. Sawyer Graham became vice president, R V Moreman promoted to cashier, Bruce Zorns added Trust Officer duties, JOC Powell promoted to assistant vice president and assistant Trust Officer. Leo Holmes remains executive vice president, J B Gillham and RON McClain become vice presidents, Don Cade named assistant vice president and auditor, J B Smith remains plant cashier.

Two New Prentice Field Locations and Statex-Cisco Progress

Two Prentice field sites were established last week with one additional completion at the Statex-Cisco field south of Brownfield Ohio. Oil wells in multiple sections report drilling progress, acidizing, and open-hole tests, with several units targeting depths around 6,900 feet and beyond. Plus, a 1,980-foot lateral offset and a 7,537-foot lime drill show ongoing activity in the Brownsfield region.

Christmas Seals Campaign Totals $516 in Terry County

The Terry County Tuberculosis Association reports $516.86 raised from Christmas Seals sales led by executive secretary Mrs. Earl Jones. Included were $34.46 from Brownfield schools and $11.90 from Meadow schools. The funds fall short for the year as 23 people need check-ups from a mass X ray program and about 20 heart ailment reports followed screening of over 2,000 people. Contributions can be mailed to the Terry County Tuberculosis Association.

March of Dimes Turns To Bridge Players For Dollars

The March of Dimes program in Terry County starts January 17 to 29 with an honor bridge rule requiring each bridge participant to donate 1. Plans assign club groups leaders including Mrs. Oliy Larner as collection contact and sighted committees from Alpha Omega Delphian Study clubs and Young Woman's Study club. A Saturday radio request program is planned for KTFY January 22 and ESA members will canvas picture shows under Mrs. Jack Browder chairmanship.

Young Man of the Year to Be Named at Jaycee Banquet

The 2nd annual Jayvee presentation banquet will feature Sammy Baugh as the keynote speaker with dinner music by Bernie Howell.
