Western Cotton Growers set program at Seagraves

Western Cotton Growers Inc and the AVI of Brownfield and Seminole team with Terry Yoakum Gaines counties and the Texas Agricultural Extension offices to host a half day cotton producers meeting at the Seagraves Community Building on Monday January 10. The program starts at 9 a.m. and ends with a free noon meal.

Japanese intern teaches Brownfield students culture and language

Kumi Takano arrives in Brownfield for a seven month teaching internship in five week campus cycles. She will teach art, music, and physical education while also learning American culture and English. Students enjoy learning to write their names in Japanese. She shares rich traditions of Japan.

Two Local Races Draw Opponents on Primaries Ballot

Voters in Terry County will face two contested local races in the March 8 primaries. The Democratic ballot features a three‑man race for County Commissioner Precinct 4 to fill Jimmie Berryhill’s seat with John Franks Jessie Hartman and Scott Hamm among the contenders. A separate Democratic contest for Justice of the Peace pits incumbent Frances See against opponents.

City Council Set to Meet on Thursday Agenda

Brownfield City Council will hold a regular session at 7 30 a m in City Hall Council Chambers. The council will review bids for a flexible membrane liner and leachate collection system for the landfill.

Cotton crop defines Terry County’s 1993 headlines

In 1993 Terry County farmers doubled the prior year’s cotton yield to over 231000 bales amid favorable weather and strong prices. Community leaders like Jay W.
