Break-in and vandalism reported at Truman DuBose farm home

The Terry County Sheriff's Department investigates a Saturday night break-in at Truman DuBose’s farm home. Entry used a hammer to beat the lock. tools marked with a D were stolen, along with batteries tires spark plugs and paint sprayed the house. Police also report multiple drunkenness arrests and minor accidents in the city.

Brownfield Trustees Tackle High Costs and Tax Delinquencies

Brownfield School Trustees held a regular meeting to address rising operation costs and tax collections. Tax assessor John Jennings reported 92.5 percent of 1965 taxes collected by Feb 21, with 6 delinquent accounts paid in full and three promising payment. 3 suits filed.

THP Investigates Car Truck Crash Near Brownfield

A 1961 Kenworth truck driven by Dwa in Davis Williams of Lubbock collided with Jewel James Lightfoot of Sweetwater in a 1965 Oldsmobile station wagon on U S Highway 380. Lightfoot suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized. others were treated and released. Officers Tommy McMeans and Terry County Sheriff deputies investigated.

County Judges' and Commissioners' Conference Held at A and M

County judges and commissioners from 100 Texas counties gathered at Texas A&M to discuss current issues. County Judge Raymond Simms of Terry County attended as part of a program focusing on county officials responsibilities and problem solving with Gov. John Connally as featured speaker. The conference is sponsored by the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas and the Agricultural Extension Service.

Dr Schwensen Addresses Credit Club on Honesty

Dr John Schwensen pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock spoke at the Brownfield Consumer Credit Club meeting held in the Flame Room of Pioneer Natural Gas. Introduced by program chairman Marlow Summitt he urged honesty citing a billion dollars stolen annually from employers and 1 000 businesses failing yearly due to employee dishonesty. Nineteen members from 15 businesses attended the noon luncheon.

Jr Hi Band Clinic Slated in Brownfield Auditorium

The Cotton Belt All Star Junior High Band will hold an all day clinic this Saturday directed by Robert Smith. A public concert at 7 p.m. in Brownfield High School auditorium will conclude the event with admission of 25 cents. About 100 students from Brownfield Lamesa Seagraves and Levelland join the inaugural gathering. Don Baird will conduct the clinic and lead the concert.

Union States Bond Election Opens March 5

The Union Independent School District calls a school bond election for March 5 totaling 160000. Polls run 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the school. If approved, funds will build new classrooms a homemaking area an agricultural shop and other improvements. The 1958 bond funded classrooms and a gym. The move follows a petition to issue the bond and maintenance tax.

Directors Meeting Rescheduled for Friday by Brownfield Chamber
