Tournament of Talent draws record entries in Brownfield

The 15th annual Tournament of Talent by the Brownfield Lions Club opens Thursday at 7 30 p m in Brownfield High School auditorium with the largest number of contestants registered in the show’s history. Local and area acts compete in elementary and older divisions while non competing entertainers also perform. Proceeds benefit the Kerville Crippled Children’s Camp.

Dr Thomas to Speak at Coffee for Heart Fund Drive

Tau Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi hosts an afternoon coffee Friday at 2 p.m. in Brownfield Country Club ballroom with Dr Malcom J. Thomas Jr. as guest speaker on Diseases of the Heart and heart research progress. Talks will cover Dr Thomas background and hospitals he served, plus a call for public attendance to learn heart care tips.

Break-In Investigated By Local Law Officers

Local law officers investigated a break-in at the Medical Professional Building 919 E Main. About 550 dollars in cash and an undetermined amount of narcotics were missing after a Saturday night incident reported Sunday morning. The storm door was pried open and three tolls used on the inner door to enter. The front counter safe was dragged out and damaged, and the pharmacy cash register was opened with only loose change left. Additional police actions included multiple minor arrests and fines for drunkenness and traffic violations, a vandalism report from Today Sales, and a double accident on Lubbock Road and Stewart Street with no injuries. A cotton trailer reportedly lost or stolen near winning season belongs to M E Hinson.

Kiwanians Hear Rev McDowell At Monday Meeting

Brownfield Kiwanis Club heard Rev. Albert McDowell of the First Presbyterian Church speak on Famous Sayings and Where They Came From. Cecil Ferguson led as president in charge with invocation by Charley Robinson and the pledge by Curtis Beard. Pancake Supper set for March 25 in Brownfield High School Cafeteria. Sheriff Posse to Host Annual Spring Round-Up Meeting

Terry County Sheriff’s Posse announced the spring round-up of the American Association of Sheriff’s Posses and Riding Clubs set for April 29 to May 1. Horace Fox presided at the regular meeting and Herschel Lowe bid for concession stands for Brownfield DeMolays and Rainbow Girls. The park adjacent to the Rodeo grounds will host visitors’ campers, and Roland Pair was elected a new Posse member. The group will attend the San Angelo rodeo parade on March 11 and the ABC Rodeo parade in Lubbock on March 16.

GenTel Purchases Part Of Antenna TV System

Brownfield Community Antenna Television System sells its outside distribution system to General Telephone Company of the Southwest. Brownfield will keep sales, installation, maintenance and billing. General Telephone handles outside facilities. Clark Copeland confirms ongoing customer calls go to Brownfield office at 318 West Main Brownfield Texas.

Pete Brown Speaks on Cotton Council at Terry County Meet

Pete Brown of Lubbock and the National Cotton Council will address the Terry County Young Farmers meeting at Brownfield High School. He will discuss the CPI and the council’s work with cotton. Merlen Speed urges attendance and will lead the business portion with reports from the Livestock Show, concession stand, and trophy case committees.

Winter Storm Misses Area Skips Terry County Weather

A predicted severe winter storm failed to reach the Terry County area. Temperatures ranged from a low of 16 degrees to a high near 60 degrees over the first three days. Forecasters expect near normal temperatures with a warming trend and little precipitation.
