TDHR fire arson suspected in Brownfield blaze
The Feb 9 fire that largely destroyed the Texas Department of Human Resources Building on North D Street remains under Brownfield Fire Department and Texas Fire Marshal investigation. Firefighters fought the blaze for hours, with investigators finding traces of flammable liquids and signs of illegal entry, and a beer can found inside. Lab test results from Austin are awaited.

BISD to discuss contracts and election at Monday meeting
BISD will hold a 7 30 p m session to discuss the administrator contracts and its annual spring trustee election. The board will enter executive session to review the voting rights suit against BISD and to discuss personnel employment and resignations. Also on the agenda are the 1986 87 school calendar and cable TV activities plus changes for 1986 87 and 1987 88 and the April 22 holiday loss due to bad weather on Feb 10.

Wellman livestock show winners named
It was Wellman's turn in the county show barn Tuesday night. The south Terry County kids exhibited 54 animals including 14 lambs and 40 swine. Grand champion lamb Denny Givens. grand champion swine Janna Golden. Showmanship trophies to Heidi Bohler and Kim Roberts. Trophies passed by Laurie Dyer. Placings include grand and reserve champions for lambs and detailed class winners.

Concerned Brownfield merchants met on a Tuesday evening to address downtown problems and the loss of shoppers to out of town destinations. Rob McGuire led the discussion focusing on vacant buildings, sidewalks, lighting, and longer downtown traffic light operation.
