Light Snow Falls In Terry County

Wintery weather moved into Brownfield and Terry County with about 30 minutes of very wet snow that melted quickly leaving only a trace of moisture. Springlike temperatures continue with highs 54 to 49 degrees and lows 30 to 28. No moisture expected for five days as drying conditions start today and persist with temperatures 2-5 degrees below normal.

Local Officers Report Quiet Period With Minor Incidents

Sheriff's department arrested one woman for drunk in car and city police released a man the next morning after a $25 fine. A theft and an accident were logged, a purse was stolen from a parked car, and a two car collision occurred at First and Hill Streets causing no injuries. A dog bite prompted animal hospital observation for possible rabies.

Local and county officers and a Lubbock canine unit captured an escaped Big Spring Mental Hospital patient at his parents home after a tense standoff. Authorities planned to minimize risk to bystanders, using psychological pressure and visible police presence to secure a peaceful surrender. The father aided by persuading his son to exit quietly and return to the hospital.

January City Police Report Shows 55 Arrests And $2,808 in Fines

Beoonafield city police report 55 arrests in January including 14 drunkenness 13 liquor law curfew 6 traffic violations and five for assault with intent to murder. 319 calls 107 hazardous tickets 79 non hazardous tickets 25 accidents investigated and $2,808 in fines from 167 tickets. Animal warden handled 58 dogs with $14 in fines. department expenses totaled $182.20.

Terry County Plastics Signs With Dowlite for Vaults

Virgil Travis president of Terry County Plastics announced a contract with Dowlite Inc of Minneapolis to manufacture Dowlite burial vaults in Brownfield Texas. The plant at 1604 Lubbock Road will serve Texas New Mexico Arizona and Oklahoma and start by employing eight to ten workers with annual payroll around forty thousand dollars. Production is set for April 15 with expansion as demand grows.

Lilly Resigns Bank Position After 15 Years of Service

Dennis Q. Lilly, longtime vice president of the First National Bank, resigns as an active officer effective Feb. 15 to devote time to personal business. He will remain on the bank’s Board of Directors and continues extensive civic work in West Texas. Lilly’s career began with the Farmers Home Administration in 1935 and includes pioneering farm financing, the first loan on a two row combine, and leadership roles in local and regional organizations. He states the move enables him to retire earlier and pursue unfinished plans with his wife Vallye.
