Brownfield News Cook Show Peaks Monday at Brownfield

The Brownfield News cooking show, co sponsored by News and Homemakers Schools of Madison Wise, features two hours of demonstrations, recipes, prizes and entertainment tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Brownfield Middle School Auditorium. Bett Woerner presents with local appliance support, using mirrors on stage and free copy of Today s Home cookbooks for attendees. Prizes include 20 grocery bags from United Supermarkets and a Sunbeam hand mixer. the event is free to the public.

Brownfield Chamber approves telemarketing driven membership drive

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce Board hires Arlington firm Chamber Consultants Inc to conduct a membership recruitment drive by phone at a cost of one third of new dues plus expenses. The board also approves the 1987 budget with a 10 percent raise for manager Bobbye Slack and secretary Rocky Hamm.

Brownfield Considers Smoking Ordinance For April Ballot

A petition with 417 signatures seeks to place a no smoking ordinance on the April 4 city election. The council will hold a 7:30 a.m. meeting to accept the petition, then schedule a 15 day waiting period and a public hearing before a final vote. If voters approve on April 4 the ordinance becomes law. if rejected it may still appear on the ballot. The council also sent a proposed fire contract to Terry County Commissioners, continuing a 1979 unsigned agreement.

Stock Show season opens in Terry County with four events

The Terry County stock show season starts Thursday with Meadow School Show featuring about 80 animals, weighings 3 30 to 5 30 p m and judging at 6 30 p m led by Scott Doss. The Brownfield Show follows Saturday with about 200 animals judged by Dwayne Brown of Lamesa High School Ag. Instructor. The Meadow School Board meets Monday at 8 a m to discuss principals contracts repairs absentee voting clerk and community input. The Wellman Stock Show runs February 16–17 at the Wellman bus barn with weigh-ins and judging led by Scott Doss. The Terry County Show slated for February 19–21 includes weighing in on the 19th and swine show on the 20th with Dr Tim Faulkenberry providing inspections.

UISD trustees meet February 9 at 8 p.m. in the Library Board Room to approve election officials for April 4. Cline and DePoyster named as clerks with Fulton as backup. Brownfield Mayor Clarifies No Smoking Initiative

Brownfield seeks to empower voters through a charter initiative to adopt a no smoking ordinance. The process requires a petition with 25 percent of last election votes, city secretary verification within ten days, a public hearing, and council action within sixty days. If council rejects the proposal, it goes to a public vote within 30 to 60 days.
