Light Elections on tap for Terry County races
As of Tuesday afternoon no new candidates had filed for April territory city and school elections in Terry County. Four BISD school elections three city elections and a hospital board race have filing deadlines February 18 March 4 and March 10 respectively with several terms ending and current officeholders, including Brenda Rudd, already seeking re election.

At halftime Friday the Brownfield High School Student Council will present the 1987 Miss Red and White during the basketball game, continuing a long standing school tradition. The event features senior contestants from the Brownfield district and aims to celebrate school spirit and community involvement.

Brownfield City Council to review land lease bids
The council will discuss leasing city owned farmland south of town used for sewage effluent irrigation. Bids open Thursday morning for a five year cash contract. Building Permits Begin Year Slowly in Brownfield
The City of Brownfield issued 13 building permits totaling 26213 in January, edging ahead of January 1986’s 25414. Permit jobs include remodels and additions at residences and commercial properties on Cedar, Hill, Tate, Reppto, Buckley, Warren, Main, Ist, and N Ist sites, with amounts ranging from 250 to 10000.

District Court places two on probation
Judge Ray Anderson in 121st District Court placed Ruben Soto on five years probation for burglary of a habitation with restitution of 1654.29 dollars. He also owes 67 dollars and a 40 dollar monthly probation fee plus court costs and a midnight curfew. Richard Cantu received three years probation after a no contest plea for criminal mischief with restitution of 758.57 dollars, 67 dollars court costs, a 40 dollar monthly probation fee, and a midnight curfew.

Terry County Livestock Show Entries Due Friday
Friday is the final day for 4 H and FFA youngsters to enter animals in the Terry County Livestock Show. The event runs February 19 to 21 at the county barn, with more than 300 animals expected. Entries may be signed up at the county agent office at 201 E Hill.

January Weather in Brownfield Shows Wide Temperature Swing
January in Brownfield featured extreme variability with 12 days above 60 degrees and two days above 70, including 76 and 74 degree highs. It also plunged below 20 on five days, with lows of 18, 17, 16, 20, and 15 degrees, and a 20 degree high on the 18th during a two day snow event delivering six inches of snow and .20 inch moisture.
