County stock show season opens with two events this week
The Terry County Ag Barn hosts the Meadow School Show on Thursday and the Brownfield School Show on Saturday. Weigh-ins run 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday with judging at 6:30 p.m. Refined details list about 80 animals in the Meadow show and about 200 in the Brownfield show. Wayne Brown is the judge for Brownfield. A separate Wellman School Show is slated for Feb 16-17 at the Wellman bus barn, and the Terry County Show runs Feb 19-21 at the County ag barn.

INB chosen as Terry County depository for two years
Terry County Commissioners accepted a bid from First National Bank to serve as the county depository through February 1, 1989 after a presentation by FNB President L J Richardson. They also voted to donate 1000 to Brownfield Crime Line and to enter a jail space agreement with Hockley County at 22 per day per prisoner plus incidental charges.

Brownfield City Council to receive no smoking petition
The Brownfield City Council will receive a no smoking initiative petition with 317 signatures at a special 7 30 a m session led by City Secretary Zelma Miller. A public hearing is set for March with a vote then. if not approved it goes to the April 4 ballot. The council will also consider a plan to accept vacuum truck wastes at the city landfall and set the service rates.

City Police Investigate Break-ins Across Weekend
Brownfield police logged multiple burglaries over the weekend. A 1984 Chevrolet Suburban in the 1200 block of East Hester was broken into with 15 cassette tapes and four chrome wheel rings stolen, value missing $75. Another Suburban in the 1200 block of East Lons reported $270 in property stolen, per police notes.
