A Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture board meeting discussed a possible low rent housing project for Brownfield using federal aid. Vernon Clem led the talks noting similar local efforts in Seagraves Post Tahoka and a 40 year loan plan, with city ownership after loan payoff.

Steele Enters Commissioners Race Precinct 1

George B. Steele entered the race for Commissioner of Precinct One pending Democratic primary action. A Brownfield native and former Stele Machine Shop owner, he has a long local service record and family ties, and vows full participation with the County Commissioners Court. Immunization Clinic Slated Here Today

The regular monthly immunization clinic sponsored by the South Plains Health Unit will run from 2 to 5 p.m. today for indigent families. Dr Evelyn Smiley of Lamesa, acting unit director, will administer vaccines to children whose parents cannot afford private care.

Taxpayers seeking income tax depletion for irrigation water drawn from land in South Plains Underground Water Conservation District No Four may obtain maps guidelines and forms approved by the IRS. Water Inc Sets First Annual Meeting in Plainview

Water, Inc. schedules its first annual meeting for February 20 at the Hale County Agricultural Center in Plainview. President John J. Kendrick will run the session from 10 a.m. with 8:30 a.m. registration and coffee. The program ends at 2:45 p.m. an optional color film on Water Projects of California follows at 3 p.m. All members and guests may attend. meeting open to the public.

Funeral services for Bill Wright, 67, were held at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. P A Powell officiating. Wright died Sunday in Brownfield General Hospital after 27 years residency in Brownfield. Survivors include brothers O R of Greenville and W R of Corpus Christi.

Brownfield Officer Named Outstanding Officer of 1967

Captain J. T. Churchwell of the Brownfield City Police Department was named Outstanding Officer of 1967 at the Terry County Peace Officers Appreciation Banquet. The event, hosted by Howard Henson Post 269 of the American Legion, honored local law enforcement with over 300 attendees. Churchwell, promoted to Captain February 1, succeeds Royce Couch, who joined the Border Patrol, and has served since 1961 with a series of promotions aided by Texas A&M Extension Service, FBI, and regional academies.
