Brownfield Bands Sweep All-Region Honors in 7th Straight Year

Brownfield High School dominates all-region band tryouts at Lubbock Coronado with 43 high school players and five alternates, far ahead of Lamesa’s 20. Brownfield Middle School’s Red Express Band places 38 with six alternates among 96, outpacing 16 other schools. Directors Rob and Barbara Lovett and Geoff Bissett lead the ensembles. list of all-region honorees includes Cheryl Flowers, Melody Moss, Wade Freeman, Jay Davis, Robert Sides and others.

School Band Rosters for Middle and High School Sections

Livestock Showmen Reminded Of Deadline As Show Date Nears

The 1983 Terry County Junior Livestock Show is three weeks away with a week left to file an Intent to Show at the county agent’s office. The three day event runs Feb 24 to 26 at the Terry County livestock area with weigh in Feb 24 from 1 to 6 pm, judges starting at 8 am, and a premium sale at 1 pm Feb 26. Fletcher & Hutcheson Auctioneers will handle the sale. judges are Terry Phillips and Spencer Tanksley.

Cancer Society Groundhog Ball Slated Saturday

Tickets are on sale for the Terry County American Cancer Society Groundhog Day Dance at Brownfield Country Club this Saturday at 9 p.m. Tickets cost 15 per couple and may be bought from chapter members or at the door. Music by Mary Beth and the West Texas Travelers. Proceeds go to cancer research.

New Year Building Begins Slowly In Brownfield

Brownfield issued building permits totaling 73350 in January. Permits covered three mobile homes one new residence a carport and a storage building. Total trails the 247400 figure from January 1982 with itemized entries including Gaylon Dyer mobile home 1500 Roy Mason mobile home 9500 Odell Russ mobile home 17000 Len Harlan new residence 35000 Regan Hendricks storage building 1200 H E Pirtle carport 350 at 401 E Reppto priced entries show modest activity for the new year.

Brownfield City Council to set election and judge

Brownfield City Council meets at 8 a.m. to call a city election and appoint an election judge. Three councilmen Leon Pope Steve Sandlin and Speedy Lindsey seek re election but have served two terms and cannot run again. Also on the agenda under new City Manager Dick Fletcher are a 9 a.m. public hearing on proposed uses of federal revenue sharing funds neighborhood improvement grant recommendations and a discussion on paying the 1400 block of East Main Street.
