Federal Home Loan officials closed the Brownfield Savings and Loan Association and the State Savings and Loan in Lubbock Friday afternoon to stabilize assets. Four directors named, new management and charters set, deposits protected, with no depositor losing a penny. Dwight Ford, manager, and Green of FSLIC outlined the plan to reopen Monday under Brownfield Federal Savings and Loan, rebranded with new directors and oversight.

Brownfield police probe assaults burglaries and rape
Police continue investigation into two assaults and a rape in Brownfield this week. A suspect reportedly wore a gray hoodie and towel over his head in the first incident on East Lanny, while the second involved a man over a North Atkins resident whose son turned on the light. The assailant is described as about 5'5 and 130 pounds with a stocking over his head and olive fatig jacket. Tips can be called in to 637-7878 anonymously as the cases go to Crimeline. City of Brownfield Terry County and Terry Memorial Hospital Board met with three private ambulance firms to explore private operation. NEWS Sets Christmas Deadline for Holiday Closings
To allow staff to spend time with families the NEWS will close all day Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday until 1 p.m. The December 25 edition will be completed Monday and printed Tuesday. The deadline for ads and store content for the Wednesday edition is noon Monday.
