BISD approves drug dog policy and plant maintenance plan
Brownfield Independent School District trustees adopted policies allowing trained dogs to sniff for drugs or alcohol on school property and to conduct unannounced visits in vacant areas and around vehicles. A private Gainesville investigator will periodically present drug prevention programs and bring dogs to campuses. They also approved a proposed tennis court maintenance project.

Brownfield Sales Tax Rebates Down in 1986
Brownfield ended 1986 with one percent sales tax rebates totaling 448,234 dollars, about 79,000 dollars or 14.99 percent below 1985’s final 527,260. Four BHS Bandmen advance to Area Four in Austin
Brownfield High School band members competed in the regional all-state band tryouts in Lubbock on Saturday and four earned the right to compete in the area band tryouts in Austin. The fifth was named an alternate. Spirit of the Plains members faced students from 4A and 5A schools, with BHS having the second most all-region selections behind Lubbock Monterey and Corona. Manuel Perez, Charles Dodson, Teresa Jones, and Clarissa Quintanilla were named all-region, with Jon Troutman named as alternate. Area all-state auditions will be held at Texas Tech on Jan. 10 under directors Blane Hinton and Jamie Shipp.
