Meadow Independent School District aims to approve its improvement and 1987 88 annual performance plans at a Friday 8 a m meeting in the superintendent’s board room. Trustees refined the district improvement plan at Monday’s meeting and TEA cited MISD in three areas including Vocational Agriculture classes and employment form questions.
The Brownfield city council will meet at 7 30 a m in the council chambers to review a memorandum on economic development a tabulation of bids for the Texas Community Development Program street paving and a request for a discounted sale of a bankruptcy claim by Revco Drug Stores Incorporated.
Howard Yandell president Brownfield State Bank announced two new directors Frank Melcher of Brownfield and Dery Bennett of Lubbock. Melcher's business background and local knowledge plus Bennett's agricultural banking expertise were praised as valuable assets. Melcher, a Slaton native, served in WWII and later opened Melcher and Wheeler Oliver in Brownfield.
Terry County Commissioners Court approved a three percent raise for elected officials and office heads and a five percent raise for all full-time employees. They also authorized a $1,000 contribution to the Chamber of Commerce for economic development efforts and noted ongoing rural development training in Lubbock. Other actions included a $30 refund to the Terry County Young Farmers for amphitheater rental, soil conservation applications for Donald Hancock and Vijay Reddy, budget amendments, and payroll costs across multiple funds.
The Brownfield Rotary Invitational brings varsity and junior varsity teams to town with six varsity clubs starting Thursday at 6 30 p m. Tickets range from 2 for adults to 1 for students with all day and passes available via Pat O Dan iel at First National Bank Proceeds go to the Rotary Polio Plus Fund Trophy awards include MVPs and All Tournament teams in both divisions.
Brownfield's varsity boys basketball team improved to 8-0 after routing Ozona 78-46 to capture the Ozona tournament. Kenneth Lawrence was named MVP with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Zayne McPherson and Bobby Lawrence earned All-Tournament honors.
November proved a dry month with only 0.02 inches of precipitation. Temperatures dipped to the freezing mark with a first freeze on the 20th and a low of 37 on that day, while a 54 degree high minimum contrasted with a pleasant 85 on the 9th. The month stayed near the Texas Almanac average.
