Vandalism increases in Brownfield area in 1982 incidents

Four July 1 vandalism actions by Terry County residents damaged two cars four tractors an irrigation system and damaged highway signs mailboxes and telephone lines near Brownfield. Brownfield Police report 263 criminal mischief calls in 1982 first 11 months with 197754 dollars in property damage plus 27000 dollars in burglaries.

Brownfield Chamber moves banquet date to January 22

Brownfield chamber officials announced the annual banquet will be held January 22 with Louisiana humorist Justin Wilson as speaker. The event was delayed after Grady Nutt’s death, and the move follows confirmation of Wilson.

Terry County gin survey shows 58,846 bales of cotton

As of Friday afternoon 20 Terry County gins reported through a Texas Employment Commission survey that they had processed 58,846 bales of cotton.

Two Convicted In District Court Action

Two cases were disposed of in 121st District Court before Judge Ray Anderson during the latter part of the week. Sandra Cheney was found guilty of theft and sentenced to five years in the Texas Department of Corrections. Rosario Gordo Martinez pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to 30 days in Terry County jail. the felony theft charge was reduced to a misdemeanor.

Christmas vacation schedules for area schools

Brownfield students dismiss an hour early Friday for Christmas break and return January 3. Meadow and Meadow in service day January 3. Medow starts 2:30 PM December 21 and returns January 4. Wellman dismisses at 2 PM December 21 and returns January 3. Union dismisses Christmas on the afternoon of December 21 and will return in early January.

The Terry Memorial District Board meets at 7 p.m. in the hospital boardroom for a packed agenda. A year end audit and Medicare cost report from Mason Nickels Warner CPAs. update on Canadian nurse recruitment previously approved. discussion on air conditioning and heating system. Owen Company pharmacy report. and administrator and financial update from acting administrator Bettina Brooks.

Trustees To Make Final Air Conditioning Payment

Brownfield School Board plans to approve the final payment for an air conditioning project completed last summer at Brownfield Intermediate School and Oak Grove and Colonial Heights Elementary Schools costing 388000. The meeting will also review the 1981-82 district audit and discuss purchasing two diesel buses for 1983-84. Meadow School Board meets at 8 a.m. with items including a principal’s report, a meeting with Meadow teachers, appointment of a textbook committee, and a report on the community schools conference.

Commissioners To Discuss Pay Hikes Monday

Terry County Commissioners meet at 10 a.m. Monday at the courthouse to discuss a proposed salary increase for county employees. Also on the agenda are a delinquent tax progress report, a Ronnie Forbes request to lay a natural gas line on county right of way in precinct two, a Brownfield fire call payment of 11 525, a $100 NACo service fee, 729.05 in SGA dues, and amendments to the 1982 county budget, plus a 2 p.m. meeting with the Terry County Museum Board.
