Suspect In Hammer Murder Remains In Jail
Brownfield man Roy Lee Tealer, 22, is jailed in Terry County on murder charges in the death of Oscar Holcombe. Holcombe, found at a West Ripley residence on November 30, was struck with a blunt object and died at Health Sciences Center Hospital in Lubbock. Tealer posted a $50,000 bond set by Justice of the Peace Carolyn Proctor.

Brownfield boys basketball went 2-1 in the San Angelo Tournament earning third place with a 75-65 win over Fort Stockton. Led by Britt Wyatt and Len Harrell with 22 points each, the Cubs shot 55 percent and 90 percent free throws. Coach Willie Hill praised the team effort after a slow start, as Brownfield opened with a win over Monahans and later lost to Brownwood before earning third.

Tractor Flip Fatality at Pool Gin Claims Hillsboro Man
Ramos Cruz, 39, died when a tractor rolled over backward onto him at about 8 30 p m Monday night at Pool Gin. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Terry County Justice of the Peace Carolyn Proctor.

Three Plead Guilty To Felony Charges
In 121st District Court Judge Ray Anderson disposed of three cases this week as defendants pleaded guilty to felonies. Jerry Bazan admitted burglary and received four years in the Texas Department of Corrections. Bentura Valdez pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and drew a two year term. Francisco Trevino pled guilty to burglary of a habitation and received a seven year probated sentence with restitution of 1961 dollars, court costs 97.50 and a 15 dollar monthly probation fee. Trevino must observe a midnight curfew and other probation conditions including avoiding disreputable places, reporting to his probation officer, allowing visits, and maintaining suitable employment.
