Claude A. Hicks, Brownfield High School graduate from 1950, will receive an honorary doctorate at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene during December 16 commencement exercises. The former Brownfield resident is honored for his achievements and ties to the community.
American Medical Response in Brownfield offers free Christmas Eve and Christmas Day medical transportation from nursing homes to family homes and back. Rides are first come, first served for Brownfield and Terry County, with nursing home calls encouraged. Judy Thomas can be reached at 637-6618 for eligibility and forms.
Deputy Grand Matron Cindy Echols visited Brownfield Chapter 785 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Worthy Matron Molly Goodpasture and Worthy Patron B F Hutson presided. Protems were Margie and James Osborn. Officers included Louison treasurer Susan Ireland deputy warder Floyd Camp. Guests Diana Bigham and Larry Bigham attended. A dinner at El Palacio preceded the session and plans were discussed for year activities and a Dec visit to Lubbock.
Redelle Martin joined 240 county tax assessor collectors and tax office staff from across Texas for the 18th annual County Tax Assessor Collector Continuing Education Seminar in College Station. The Institute of County Government at Texas A&M hosted the program, with CE credits from Texas A&M and the State Board of Tax Professional Examiners. Topics included the 77th Texas Regular Legislative Session preview, Texas taxes, motor vehicles, property tax updates, records management, and sales tax updates from state agencies.
