Brownfield honors Amoco for longterm community support

Seminole jury convicts Miranda in Vandivere murder

Salvadore Otero Miranda was found guilty of capital murder in the Nov. 5, 1984 slaying of Darryl Vandivere of Brownfield by a Gaines County jury after 32 hours of deliberation in 106th District Court. His cousin Eraclio Miranda pleaded guilty, turned state's evidence, and is jailed in Terry County.

Brownfield Chamber of Commerce names 1987 officers

The Brownfield Chamber of Commerce revealed its 1987 officer slate with Howard Yandell slated as president and Jimmy Hammons as vice president. Seven new directors will join in January for three year terms: A S Bullock Jackie Cargill George Cox Ruby Craig Roy Edwards Nancy Hollmann Melvin Stevenson. Christopher will remain president until the January banquet after a transfer and resignation letter was reviewed. Executive VP Bobbye Slack reported a Nov 30 balance of 7193.33, with Oct 31 balance 9312.97 and net profit 1389 from football playoff events and concessions. The annual banquet is set for Jan 10 at the BHS Commons with Clyde Harris as guest.

Brownfield choirs prepare Christmas program at BMS Auditorium

Brownfield High School and Middle School choirs directed by Suzanne White and Jane Backus perform a Christmas program at the BMS Auditorium at 7 p.m. Thursday. The choirs perform separately and together with about 150 students involved. The New Horizon Singers and the sixth grade music class also perform. Admission is free to the public.

BRMC Sets Regular Session Agenda for Board Meeting

The Terry Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in regular session. The 1985-86 BRMC audit is a primary item, with administrator Pat McMillan to give the monthly report. A closed executive session may be held to discuss personnel matters.

Smith Foods Sells City Property to Furr Foods Inc

Smith Foods sells city land to Furr Foods Inc in a deal affecting multiple stores. Furr’s will reopen in Hereford Plainview Fort Stockton Pecos under the Furr’s sign except Hereford, which becomes LoMart a discount merchandise venture. Purchases also include a tract in Lamesa, with no comment from Furr’s officials.

Goodfellows seek names for Christmas gift donors drive

Goodfellows in Brownfield in their 23rd year seek names of children and families to receive toys and meals. Submit names this week to a local church for screening before passing to the group. Donations of toys may be left at the fire station and cash at city hall to fund two toys per child and a meat plus fruit and vegetables for each family.
