West Texas Citizens Plan California Water Tour

Clem Weiss heads a 75 member group from Amarillo, Lubbock, and Brownfield plus their spouses on a December 10 13 tour to California water projects. Water Inc sponsors the trip and will visit Sacramento and the Oroville Dam then Kern County to learn about Master Districts and state water operations.

Goodpasture Rites Pending for Kathryn Goodpasture

Funeral services are pending for Kathryn Goodpasture 75, who died after arriving at Brownfield General Hospital. She lived at 0. E. Ripley and moved to Terry County in 1917 from Ada Oklahoma. Survivors include one son Grady. five daughters Rozelle Stevens Gertie Hill Estelle Rhyne Mary Joyce Jordan and Lois Bidwell. 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband R M Goodpasture died July 24 1934.

Funeral services for Marvin Lewis Ervin 60 will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Northside Baptist Church with Rev A J Franks officiating Burial will follow in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under Brownfield Funeral Home direction Ervin died Wednesday at Brownfield General Hospital after a heart condition He was manager of B E Implement Co Moved to Brownfield in 1936 and was a deacon at Northside Baptist Church He belonged to Brownfield Masonic Lodge 903 Survivors include his wife Mable one son Jim Ervin of Brownfield two daughters Nelda Blackman and Inez Beesinger both of Brownfield his mother Mrs Lucy Franklin three brothers Earnest Roy both of Brownfield and Tom of Oxnard California two sisters Mrs Bill Irwin of Brownfield and eight grandchildren

Students Present Christmas Program at Brownfield High

Second and third grade students from Colonial Heights Elementary will present a 7:30 p.m. Christmas program in the Brownfield High School auditorium. Directed by Mrs. Jorene Gaiton, music teacher, about 200 children perform novelty Christmas selections and Nativity scenes.

Legion Oratorical Contest Hosted by Howard Henson Post

Legion Sponsors Oratorical Fete at Brownfield High School Auditorium today at 2 45 p m. Bill R Neel of Lubbock chairs the 19th District contest with winners from the Lubbock December district. Fred Jackson, Union High School junior, placed second and will not compete today. District covers Bailey Cochran Yoakum Gaines Andrews and Floyd Mitchell counties. Billy Bond of Seminole is 19th District Commander.

Seven Directors Introduced At CC

George Weiss was elected president of the Terry County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture for 1968 at the final board meeting. Seven new directors were introduced: Ken Muldrow Loyd Hahn Howard Hurd Punch Nelson Bill Campbell Jack Brooks and Paul Blackstock. The annual banquet will be Jan 25 at the National Guard Armory with Brigadier General John M. McNab as guest speaker. Bill Campbell was named banquet chairman.

Brownfield Band Boosters Sell Fruitcakes

Brownfield High School Band Boosters sell Texas Manor Fruit Cakes with orders taken through December 20. Cakes priced 3.70, 5.25 and 8.25 in two, three, and five pound sizes. President Jack Garrett led the meeting as about 14 band students travel to Odessa for All-District tryouts and band events include a Christmas Concert on December 19 and Sun Bowl Parade participation in El Paso.
