Terry County Fair 1984 Sets Oct 4 6 In Coleman Park
The ninth annual Terry County Fair runs October 4 to 6 at the National Guard Armory in Coleman Park. Exhibits span 12 departments with a pet show for locals, plus outside displays. Officers include President Joe Burleson and Secretary-Treasurer Mrs. Kermitt Shults. Directors cover Agriculture, Art Show, Canned Fruits & Vegetables, Crafts, Culinary, Golden Age, Horticulture, Exhibits, Pet Show, Relics & Antiques, Special Education, Textiles. Exhibits must be Terry County residents. entry times vary with culinary entries accepted 8:00 to 8:30. Pet show preregistration is October 4 with judging October 6 at 2:00 PM. Infant dies from H Influenzae in Brownfield
Five month old Whitney Austin Rutherford died in a Lubbock hospital on Thursday. Initial reports claimed meningitis from Minningococcal causes were ruled out and the death attributed to H Influenzae. Health officials note H Influenzae mainly affects children under five and is not the contagious meningitis feared earlier. Funeral services for the child were held Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Brownfield.

Crossing Guards Begin Watchful Duties Monday
Brownfield assigns two guards at each of three crossings on Lubbock and Tahoka Highways to aid students crossing safely. Anita and Ramona Contreras guard A and Tahoka from 7:30 to 8:20 a.m. and 3:30 to 4:10 p.m. Stella Contreras and Ignacia Ammons guard D and Tahoka at same times. Eloisia Guerra and Mary Lou Sambrano cover Ripley and Lubbock Highway from 7:20 to 8:20 a.m. and 3:45 to 4:20 p.m. Irene Contreras serves as substitute.

Band Boosters plan first meeting and fish fry
The Brownfield High School Band Booster Club schedules its first meeting of the year for 8 p.m. Tuesday in the High School commons. Plans include the annual fish fry on Sept. 14 at Oak Grove Cafeteria.
