Brownfield Optimist Club recognizes four recent BHS graduates as young Tex-Ans for August and September. Honorees include Steven Cawthon, Tiffany Rudd, Sam Miller, and Regina Holmes, with plans to compete in district and state Tex-An contests. Cawthon earned valedictorian honors and NHS leadership. Rudd served as senior year head cheerleader and NHS member. Miller was salutatorian and NHS leader. Holmes recognized for outside activities.

Nominations have begun for Terry County Farm Tour awards to be presented Sept 20. Eligible are Farm Family of the Year Dryland Farmer of the Year Agribusinessman of the Year and Young Farmer of the Year. Nominations are due August 31 at the Soil Conservation Office or Brownfield Chamber of Commerce Office.

Commissioners reject raising vehicle tax motion
Terry County commissioners on Monday rejected a motion to add a $5 county fee to vehicle registrations. Vote split among four members, with County Judge Herbert Chesshir casting the deciding no. API Chapter Blind Bogey Golf Tourney Plans Sept at Brownfield
The South Plains Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute schedules its 30th annual Blind Bogey Tournament for September 7 and 8 at Brownfield Country Club. Proceeds fund 25 scholarships to South Plains College and Texas Tech University. Past profits created $60,000 and $40,000 endowment funds at Texas Tech and South Plains for future scholarships. entrants must be API South Plains members and 18 or older. Old Settlers reunion draws over 200 guests
Terry County’s Old Settlers gathered for the 24th Annual Reunion with 222 check ins. Registration began at 9 am and a shared meal followed. The afternoon featured handbell music from First Baptist Church and a women’s trio, with awards for the oldest couple, longest married, longest resident, and furthest traveler.

Brownfield Police Reserve volunteers aid city service
Ten volunteers supplement the Brownfield Police Department providing 57 hours of patrol and ambulance cover in July and over 500 annual man hours. Reservists receive no pay, rely on donations, and must complete four hours monthly plus 94 hours of training. They staff major events and accidents and participate in monthly meetings and outside courses at personal expense.
