Prelude registration Friday and class opening August 31 mark the start. In BHS auditorium the group will outline a guidance program for elementary faculties. Texas Education Agency reports guide an overall curricula study with Wednesday activities led by Superintendent O. R.
Studies at the San dyland Experiment Plot near Brownfield indicate that September irrigation of fertilized and unfertilized cotton is unprofitable. July to Sept waterings raised lint yields but reduced gross value on fertilized plots, while unfertilized plots fared better financially.
Lee Brownfield, Brownfield Rotary speaker and city representative to the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority, said the dam project may become reality if Amarillo and Lubbock agree on water pricing. He noted Amarillo Pampa and Plainview rejoined CRMWA after years away, with plans for a government loan at 2.6 percent interest.
Funeral services for Mrs. R. E. Townzen 71 of 401 North B are set for 1 p m today at First Baptist Church with Dr. Weathers officiating. She died Friday night in Terry County Hospital after a short illness. Burial will be in Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include her husband a son Carl J Rich ter of Los Angeles two daughters Mrs Ellis Barnes and Mrs R G Ledbetter of O'Donnell four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The United Commercial Travelers of America Brownfield Council 285 will assemble at 7 p m Monday in The Melody for its August business session. Members are urged to bring their wives. A banquet will be served.
Housewives bowling league to form with an organizational meeting at 9 15 a m on September 8 at Sands Bowling Lanes. Mrs Lawrence Renfro notes women wishing to participate should attend.
Meadow students register Friday morning for the fall term from 9 to 11. Buses will not run that day. Classes start the following Monday. Superintendent Odell Wilkes notes a first grade position remains open. Nellie Grey of Matador and C. E Johnson of Whitharrel were hired for third and eighth grades. About 300 students are expected to enroll.
Report notes a price war spreading from traditional markets to Lubbock with major and independent stations cutting regular gas by 2 to 3 cents. A Brownfield ad announces the war while operators say they lack details on duration and extent.

Four Brownfield students graduated from Texas Tech on Saturday night marking the end of the summer term. The graduates are J. W. Hawkins, Dennis Terrell Knight, Billy Gene Barton, and James G. Morris. Also noted are graduates from East Texas State College and Mary Jane Brownfield preparing for Stephens College.
Construction of a $40,000 St Anthony's Catholic Church on Levelland Highway advances to seat over 400. Dedication is tentatively set for October per Rev Paul H Laub SAC. Parish status to follow, with remodeling and acquisition plans including a Seagraves mission home.
On a farm 15 miles east of Brownfield, J Harred and son Gene recount a switch from tractors to mules for plowing and field work. The 153 acre Terry County operation still uses four red sorrel mules for chores and parade duty, contrasting with today’s mechanized methods.
Registration for juniors and seniors is Tue 8:30 to 12 and 1 to 5. Freshmen and sophomores may register Wed at the same hours. Principal Frank Odom also notes bus drivers meeting Sat 8:30 in the school board room, followed by a faculty meeting. Classes begin Aug 31 with an 8:30 assembly. buses start Aug 31.
Brownfield Junior High gridders will check out suits this week for the upcoming season. Coach Clifford Niles said eighth graders pick up equipment at 3 p.m. Wednesday and seventh graders at 3 p.m. Thursday. Workouts begin August 31.
