Council Sets 08 Budget Hearings and Charter Vote
The council discussed the 2007-2008 tax rate with Chief Terry County Tax Appraiser Ronny Burran confirming support to keep the rate at 49.000 cents per $100 while noting higher property values raise the effective rate above last year. Two public hearings are set for Aug 30 and Sept 13 at 7:30 a.m. They approved CPA Joe F. Hays as auditor for 2006-2007 and called a City Charter Amendment Election for Nov 2, 2007 to allow three two year terms. A Brownfield Town Hall meeting was also planned to hear residents’ needs for safety and quality of life.

Obituary John J Eakin Jr Brownfield resident dies
John J Eakin Jr of Brownfield died August 16 2007 at his home. A Brownfield Church of Christ memorial was held August 18 2007 with internment at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Born May 25 1926 in Terry County he served in WW II on USS Ticonderoga and USS Bardstown Victory. He married Patsy Ross Black in 1950 and worked for Sun Oil before farming in Terry and Yoakum Counties. He is survived by Patsy, son Ron and wife Randi, daughters Marci Ayers and Missy Robertson, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
