Commissioners move to set '08 tax rate in Terry County
In a Monday session the Terry County Commissioners unofficially set the 2008 tax rate at 58.4 cents per $100 valuation, unchanged from 2007, with two public hearings slated for Aug 27 and Aug 31 due to above effective rate. They also discussed the county budget, approved three new Ford F-150 pickups for $13,088.05 each, and raised per diem from 140 to 200 dollars with mileage from 40 to 48 cents. Residents criticized Precinct Four road conditions, pressing for caliche road improvements and accountability. Commissioner Jessie Hartman defended efforts, noting limited staff and ongoing maintenance challenges.
