A humor feature titled Paper a Tak Paper a Tak questions readers on ridiculous riddle style quiz lines. It pacts a Southwest Conference joke tone with tricky questions about outs in an inning and odd Elvis style wordplay.
The Terry County Pioneers Association sponsors a 26th Old Settlers Reunion next week at the American Legion Hall starting at 9 a.m. with a covered-dish noon meal, a memorial service, music, and gifts for longstanding couples and oldest attendees. Brownfield High School Class of 1936 will also hold a 50th reunion weekend with a reception at Seleta Jane Clubhouse on Friday and a dinner at Brownfield High on Saturday.
Amoco Production Company's Slaughter District hosts an open house for Larry McVay Monday from 2 30 to 4 30 p m at the Slaughter District Office on Tohoka Road. McVay, district manager since Oct 1980, is moving to Denver as regional engineering manager of Amoco's Denver region office. He has been active in Brownfield civic groups, school boards, sports coaching and booster activities. His wife Nancy works for the Brownfield School District, and they have son Heath, a 1986 Brownfield High graduate, and daughter Heather, a seventh grader.
Brownfield Independent School District announces fall registration for Brownfield High School and nearby campuses. Freshmen through seniors register August 26 27 with grade times, followed by intermediate and elementary registrations at BISD facilities. Wellman Meadow Union follow Sept 2 arrivals for new and returning students.
The BISD board will adopt the 1986 87 school budget at Monday's 7 30 p m session. They may call a school board election and approve new hires and resignations. Monthly reports will be presented by Superintendent Don Hendley James Willis and Jack Pinson along with Dale Sides.
In late July and early August eight Brownfield residents joined a Texas Baptist Australia crusade visiting Alice Springs, a remote town in the Northern Territory. They taught Vacation Bible School and aided local ministry activities for about a week, praising the friendly locals and noting a birthday celebration for Susan Awbrey. The trip marked the third Texas Baptist outreach and the second in three years for Brownfield participants. The group traveled via Melbourne on the way home, reflecting on Australia’s famed outback.
