Brownfield Launches Sunny Days Treasure Hunt Across Town

The three day Brownfield Sunny Days event kicks off Monday with 38 participating firms and a treasure hunt worth 3944 prizes totaling 7762 dollars. Shoppers spot red placards in windows to find the serial numbers tied to prizes and may win by presenting the front page of today’s NEWS showing their number. Firms may add prizes or swap numbers daily as the hunt progresses and locals are urged to visit multiple stores to maximize chances of winning.

Brownfield Western Cotton Oil Mill Reopens After Standby

Western Cotton Oil Company's Brownfield mill, idle for two years, will reopen with John Odell returning as manager. The facility will process cottonseed and store seed cake meal and hulls, employing an annual payroll around 75000 dollars. J W Gilbert will head the installation with 30 years at the company. The mill sits just north of Brownfield on Lubbock Highway.

Public payrolls in Terry County run one per forty three residents

A 1957 Census of Governments report shows Terry County with 384 public employees, including 339 full time, and total payroll of 100 400 for a test month. Per capita cost is low, with 43 residents supported by each public worker, higher than national and Texas averages.

Committeemen Named For County ASC Elections In Terry Area

Nine ASC communities in Terry will elect by mail next week nine slates of candidates for county committee membership. Additions to slates are possible until Aug. 23, with ballots due Sept. 8. Delegates to the county ASC convention will be chosen from the elected committeemen. Nine communities list their nominees and groups include Billy Winn to Pippin in Terry, plus CHALLIS, POOL, LAHEY and WELLMAN areas.
