Annual Brownfield air show showcases West Texas pilots

The Brownfield Pilots Association hosts the annual Fly In at the airport starting with a breakfast at 7 a.m. priced 3 for adults and 2 for children, served by Rev. Randy Land and inmates from the Ray D. Anderson Community Corrections Center. The event features parachute teams, aeronautics displays, gyrocopter exhibitions, parasail shows, and rides for 8 each, with proceeds funding terminal improvements.

Second 1st Annual Regatta and Car Show at Coleman Park

Brownfield hosts a weekend event with a car show in classes Stock Modified Muscle Street Rod and Low Rider. Registration Friday 4 to 7 p.m. Amphitheater. cookout 6 to 7:30 p.m. Car cruise at 8 p.m. Saturday 8 to 9 a.m. registration and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. show with 3 p.m. awards. Boat races also run every 30 minutes near the amphitheater with a Race Finale about 3 p.m. Admission to the show is free. entry fee 30 dollars for car contestants. Contact City Hall for details.

County discusses tax rate by GARRY PEEBLES

Terry County commissioners motioned for a 2007 tax rate of 58.4 cents per 100 valuation, down from 64.6 cents last year, with the 2007 budget to be approved at the Sept. 11 session and take effect Jan. 1. Burran explained the effective rate and rollback considerations, noting each penny yields about $79,100. The public hearing will follow the rollback requirement if applicable.

Cotton cropland faces drought and costly pumping in Terry County

Extension agent Chris Bishop described 2006 as hot and dry with peanut fields showing little disease but pod rot from overwatering. Circling irrigation pumps have kept water in circles, increasing costs and delaying well shutoffs.
