USDA Reports Start of 2007 Cotton Production Run
The USDA first survey based production estimate for 2007 projects High Plains cotton at 3.95 million bales from 2.99 million harvested acres with yields near 634 pounds per acre. Texas is seen producing 6.1 million bales of Upland cotton, while national All Cotton is forecast at 17.137 million and Upland at 16.5 million. Districts 1-N and 1-S show acreage shifts, lower planted land, and modest declines in yield but potential for similar or higher production if moisture improves.
