Hawkins transforms Terry County farming with four bale cotton yields
J W Hawkins began planting cotton in 1960 and by 47 years later runs 1000 acres in a three crop rotation of cotton peanuts and wheat. He uses FiberMax Flex 9063 and precise irrigation to push yields, credits soil testing and pivots, and shows no plans to retire while reflecting on a half century of farming life in Brownfield Texas.

Farmer recalls near disaster and farming lessons from 1969
A farmer reflects on a frightening incident and a harsh 1969 season on the High Plains. He recounts bailing cotton early, replanting, nursing the crop through October, and an early freeze that left a yield of a quarter bale per acre. He notes a resolve to do serious playing before each season.
