Chamber plans Harvest Festival in Brownfield
Brownfield Chamber of Commerce members set Oct 4 for the Harvest Festival and announced queen candidates from five clubs Debbie Fletcher Shay Moore Robbie Hartman Holly Edwards and Allison Dyess. A Hawaii trip prize was chosen as grand prize along with festival tickets on sale. Executive VP Bobbye Slack reported a July balance of 5762.37 with funds from School Marm Meets Cowboy softball tourney and summer shows. Terry County Farm Tour slated Sept 18 while oil and gas tour was canceled. Rob McGuire urged joint action by city county chamber and Business Men's Association to boost Brownfield’s economy.

The Brownfield Crime Line Information Inc announces a $300 reward for information leading to arrests in a burglary of a residence at 414 E Hill on 08 07 86. Suspect described as a slim 5 6 inch young black male with a pantyhose mask, who assaulted the owner and fled east through a bedroom window. Items taken include a VCR remote control. Additional rewards cover break ins to a 1971 white Chevrolet El Camino at 1209 East Ward for an AM FM cassette stereo, an equalizer and two speakers. a 1979 Dodge pickup at 1002 East Buckley for a radar detector. and a 1979 Ford pickup at 713 Cactus Lane for an AM FM stereo cassette player and gas mask.

Brownfield council opens bids for street paving project
Brownfield City Council opened bids for an assessment paving program on D Street from Felt Street to Shinnery Lane near Oak Grove Elementary. The low bid was 597532 from a Lubbock contractor. Public hearing and final street selections will follow, with work targeted for Summer 1987 completion.

Hospital board to set 1986 87 tax rate Monday
The Terry Memorial Hospital District Board of Directors will vote on the 1986 87 tax rate at 7 p.m. in Monday's regular session. A proposed rate of 9.83 per $100 valuation was put forward by Hospital Administrator Pat McMillan after a July 31 public hearing to gather citizen input.
