Local growers harvest first grapes in Terry County gamble
Elbert and Doyle Floyd harvested their first grapes on their South 14th Street acre. After three years of work they plan to ship the crop to Miessna Hoff Wine Cellars in Bryan. They expect about one third production this year and warn Terry County may never become a major wine producer. The full assessment will take years as vines mature and aging determines quality. Brownfield weather shows a wet and hot July with year to date rainfall well above normal. July total reached 2.21 inches, near the 2.28 inch average, with daily sums including 1.17 on the 1st and 0.14 on the 23rd. UISD Public Hearing on 1986 87 Budget Set for Monday
The Union School Board calls a public hearing at 8 p.m. Monday on the 1986 87 proposed budget. Afterward the board will convene in regular session at 9 p.m. to adopt the budget and set the tax rate, establish breakfast and lunch prices, and accept a milk bid for the school year. It will approve expenses for Linda Mayfield to attend a TAAO Conference in Austin in September and receive monthly reports from Superintendent Charles Clark.
