J C McEvoy announces his candidacy for re election to the office of County Attorney of Waller County Texas subject to the Democratic Primary on July 22. He cites increased revenues and workload and asks for continued support for service to the county.
The Pattison Home Demonstration club invites all to a hooked rug demonstration at Mrs. John England's home on Thursday May 18 at 10 am. Mrs. Roark of Houston will blend colors and show her oak leaf rug shown at the Museum of Fine Arts in New York. Mr. Cox of Nacogdoches assists. he funded college by drawing designs and hooking rugs. A covered dish luncheon follows at noon.
Katy ISD announces Baccalaureate services on May 21 at 8 p.m. with Rev. Hap Watkins delivering the sermon and church choir music led by Mrs. Derwood Blackwell. An 8th Grade Promotion is set for May 22 and Graduation on May 23 with Commencement speaker Dr. Lester Pierce of the University of Houston. Celeste Avery and Carolyn Schlipf will deliver addresses in the new auditorium.
Walter Adcock has completed a cabinet shop at his home and installed power equipment. He will manufacture and finish window and door frame units and screens. The builder has constructed 29 homes in and around Katy over the past five years.
Mr and Mrs C L Miller of Brenham invite Katy and Brookshire friends to visit their home during the Mai fest. They hope to see many old friends at Bettys coronation Saturday evening.
Mrs. L E Stinson Hill announces her candidacy for re election to the office of County Treasurer of Waller County Texas subject to the Democratic primaries. She expresses gratitude for past service and pledges to serve to the best of ability.
The San Felipe Associational Brotherhood meets Monday May 15 at 7 30 PM in the Brookshire School auditorium and cafeteria with pastors from Missouri City Stafford Sugar Land Richmond Rosenberg Calvary Beasley Katy and other churches attending. Lou Plummer former Houston wrestler Notre Dame star and rancher from New Waverly will deliver the principal message.
The Brookshire Lions Soft Ball League will be organized under O M Pederson Jr. Interested players should meet with Mr Pederson soon. The first game is scheduled for Monday May 22 with gates set for Monday and Friday nights.
In the Jaybird election of Ft. Bend County Ed Helwig and D R Daniels Jr lead the run off scheduled for June 8. Unofficial Katy box results Pct 14 show Helwig 26 and Daniels 18 for Commissioner with McGill 46 and Zwahr 18 also high votes for sheriff.
The Tiger Booster Club will sponsor a softball league in Katy under Jack Rhodes. Plans include Jr. and Sr. divisions with two evenly divided teams. About 80 students participated in a talent program directed by Mrs. Wiley. New officers were elected: Jim Watson president, W J Dube Jr vice president, Mrs E B Denny secretary treasurer, and several others on the executive committee.
Mr and Mrs Fred Herman and Mrs Kay Boswell of Galveston were visiting Mr and Mrs Max Wander on Monday. The social note records a casual local visit among families in the area.
Carolyn Schlipf mezzo soprano daughter of Mr and Mrs F Schlipf and pianist Mr Wilkinson will perform in a recital in the Katy High Level SAU auditorium May 18 at 8 p.m. The public is invited.
The Katy Tigers finished fifth in the Class B state track meet in Austin with 18 points. Donald Nash won the 120 yd high hurdles in 15.0 seconds tying the Class A and AA marks. Wallace Freeman was second in the mile in 4:42, the best time of his career.
The Ladies Aid of Memorial Lutheran Church will hold a cake sale at Katy Speciality Co. starting at 1 p m on May 18 the Saturday before Mothers Day.
The Brookshire Bus. and Professional Women club raised roughly $100 for the Community Center Fund with a Tuesday night box supper. Auctioneer Jim Rose led the event while prizes went to Kitty Harrison and Janet Woods for prettiest boxes. The Katy Methodist Church Jr. choir and Dee Brune's Orchestra performed a fine program.
Unofficial returns show C. D. Gordon and A. J. Mangum re-elected as Katy ISD trustees with 52 voters. At the regular Tuesday meeting the board reorganized naming A. J. Mangum president, Jesse Freeman vice president, Garber Short secretary, and C. I. Cardiff treasurer.
Pattison School will hold graduation exercises Friday night May 19 at 8 p.m. in the high school gym. Supt. W C Norris has asked Dean Atkinson of Blinn College to deliver the address.
Mr and Mrs Bob Rodgers open a shop in Brookshire offering a full line of records as well as record players and needles. The store occupies the building next to Jack Donalds, former Phillips Shoe Shop location.
Hallettsville based Senator Gus J. Strauss announces candidacy for re election to the 15th Senatorial District covering Austin Colorado Fayette Lavaca and Waller Counties. He emphasizes impartial representation a lengthy voting record and opposition to pay raises while noting farm rural road support and business experience. He hails from Lavaca County born near Shiner and has served as district clerk fire chief and Texas Railroad Commission director.
The Addicks Barker Home Demonstration Club meets May 15 at 10 a.m. in Barker Presbyterian Church recreation room with hostesses J. S. Hutchings and W. C. Lewis. Mrs Frances McCulloch discusses quick mixes and freezing thawing of baked goods and notes advances in sub zero storage. A second session occurs June 15 at 2 p.m. at Mrs George Nelson home for the Katy club. Lizzie Garrett remains in critical condition at St Joseph infirmary Houston since Friday as family is at her bedside.
Mrs. D. D. Feagan Mrs. John Powell and Mrs. Jack Freytag reported seeing a flying saucer last Tuesday at the west door of the Rainbow Cafe. They said it moved so fast it vanished before they could tell others.
