Drowning Tragedy Claims Leo Barber Son Near Katy
Leo Son Barber aged 14 drowned in a 12 foot deep pool near his Katy area home while swimming with cousins and visiting guests including Rev. Howard Williams. Despite quick rescue attempts and resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead by Dr. Bing after an accidental drowning verdict by Judge Mays. Funeral services were held at Baytown Chapel.

75 Cent Charge Ignites Fatal Shooting at Vaughan Station
At Vaughan's Service Station a $0.75 quick charge dispute led to violence. Pete, a 23 year old man, refused to pay, struck Elbert Murray, then was shot in the right lung by W. F. Murray who fired after self defense. Pete died later at Richmond Hospital. Deputies filed assault charges against Elbert Murray and others.
