Brookshire volunteers urge residents and merchants to donate to finish a new municipal fire station and civic building. The project will serve as headquarters for the Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department and a civic asset, with an estimated $6,500 still needed to complete the modern tile structure.
Disney presents Davy Crockett the feature film in color with Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen. Filmed in Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains with Cherokee regiments, later Nashville locations for Crockett's rise. Shows Thursday and Friday at Wayside. tickets 25 cents children, 40 cents adults. 7:15 p.m. showtime.
Mrs Louise Gra was taken to Sealy hospital with an infection last Saturday. She returned home Monday and is doing fine. Billy Muske underwent a tonsilctomy Tuesday at Sealy Hospital and came home Wednesday.
The Board of Equalization for Brookshire Independent School will convene at the tax collector's office next Monday June 27 to hear taxpayers seeking review of their property values. The meeting runs from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
The Katy Planning Committee backs a street program including curb gutter storm sewer and paving proposed by Wyatt Hendrick Engineering. The group discussed the tax structure and plans a voter canvas to decide on calling an election.
Scout Troop 370 left Sunday morning for Camp Strake with 13 boys and Scoutmaster Young going for the week while 12 boys stayed behind. A. O. Muske drove the bus to camp and Richard Woods moved gear in a pickup. both groups returned Sunday evening.
Howard Pennington and K D Waggoner launch the P and W Butane Co in Katy with an office at Pennington’s Magnolia Bulk Plant. The venture offers gasoline diesel kerosene and butane for prompt delivery to farms and homes, leveraging local farm tractors and rice wells.
A Sunday celebration on Frydek Parish grounds marks the 14 month build completion of a 72 by 80 foot Youth Center building with auditorium kitchen dining and refreshment room. Holy Mass at 10:30 dedicates the center followed by a barbecue meal free Micah band concert and Joe Cervenka orchestra dance music.

J L Rose finished second in the Area tractor contest at Columbus on June 18 with 258 points. The winner from West Columbia had 241 points, and Rose faced a two minute overtime penalty. The top finishers advance to the state meet in Houston on July 1.

A head on collision three miles east of Sealy Sunday morning killed Bobby Kessler and Frucioso Guajardo and left five injured. The station wagon passengers from San Antonio, en route to Houston to visit a relative after Friday’s accident, were treated at Sealy and Hermann Hospitals.
A joint meeting of the K and Katy Home Demonstration Clubs is set for Tuesday June 28 at 2 00 p m at the Katy Fire Station. Hostesses are Mrs Douglas Falk Mrs John Morrison and Mrs Frances McCulloch. County Home Demonstration Agent will discuss shirtmaker blouse construction including pattern fitting stay stitching pocket placement and sleeve application. Visitors are welcome.
Thirteen members of the Katy Auxiliary to the Floyd E Breed Live Post 9182 W F W instituted the new Tomball Auxiliary No 2427 last Tuesday night. Mrs Kathleen Wilson acted as instituting officer. Nineteen members were instituted with Mrs Ruth Bogs installed as president and Mrs Virginia Westmoreland as conductress. The Katy Auxiliary presented Tomball with a Bible and Katy received an electric wall clock from the new auxiliary.

Don B. Cornelius fifty eight? No 28 of Fort Worth Texas died in an auto crash Saturday evening. His parents Mr and Mrs F B Cornelius learned of the tragedy at Cleburne hospital where he died on the way. The family left for Athens late Saturday night and services were held there at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Survivors include his parents one sister Mrs Ed E Tillerson of Seymour Texas a niece and a nephew.
