Brookshire Methodist Vacation Church School Begins June 12

Brookshire Methodist Church will open Vacation Church School on Monday June 12 for two weeks. Children aged four and older are invited to daily sessions from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The program includes worship singing lessons story hours recreation refreshments hard work and other activities.

Floyd Paben and J E Rowan announce the birth of a firm named Paben and Rowan contractors. They haul gravel sand and iron ore with dump trucks drag lines bulldozer. Rowan from Savannah La worked for Robert Gair Industries. Paben family moved from Grand Island Neb about sixteen months ago and built a home in Pattison.

Katy Alumni Meet Holds 111 Attendees at Annual Gathering

The Katy Alumni group met for their yearly event with 111 registered attendees. Carol Waterbury traveled the farthest from South Dakota. Officers elected include Kenneth Peck as president and John Cardiff as vice president. A varied program featured songs, an invocation by Albert Thompson, and multiple performances by alumni and guests. Refreshments were served by several members.

Hail and Rain Storm Destroys Pattison Area Crops and Homes

A severe hail and wind storm hit the Pattison area for about 30 minutes at 6 pm Monday. Hundreds of windows broke, homes flooded, and crops were ruined. One house shifted on its blocks, the gym roof torn off, and water and hail damaged gardens, pastures, and poultry. Neighbor Harmon Wiescher was briefly caught outside but unharmed. The sun returned Tuesday allowing repairs and drying.

Severe hail and wind storm sweeps Pattison area

A late Monday storm brought 75 mph winds and heavy hail causing crop losses in Pattison and widespread damage. Homes and windows were battered, several garages collapsed, and about twenty telephone poles were toppled while Herman Meyers and crews restored power for the region amid record rainfall and flood stages.

Lions Club Complimented On Year's Work

The Brookshire Lions Club held its annual installation at Brookshire School with 150 attendees. District Gov. Newt Helsher spoke on Lionism, praising the club's past year as officers installed by Dist Gov Elect Al Walker and guests including zone chairman Zschappel.

Miss Lolita Buchanan sold 31 tickets to win a Guernsey heifer and placed 4th countywide as the top girl in the 4 H and FFA event. She was offered 500 dollars for the calf but kept it.

Brookshire Girl Earns Blinn Associate in Arts Degree

Lilian Laas of Brookshire received an Associate in Arts from Blinn College Brenham Texas at the June 5 1950 graduation exercises. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs G H Laas and a Pattison High School graduate. She also appears on Blinn College Honor Roll for the second semester ending June 5 1960 with 47 of 523 students listed.
