Big day planned for a Boy Scout barbecue on Saturday June 4 with dinner at 11 to 1 for $1 per plate. Contests follow including nail driving knot tying water boiling tent pitching pancake cooking log pulling and a compass treasure hunt to support building a campsite for Scout Troop 209.
The formal opening of Tri County Implement Co was attended by hundreds. Guests registered for prizes and received refreshments and a display of J I Case farm equipment. Officers include L E Morrison president Clyde Nelson vice president H R Ferguson secretary Edward Spruell treasurer and others.
All Katy High School Alumni are reminded of the annual meeting and banquet in the school cafeteria Saturday evening June 4 at 7 30 PM. The Katy Starlighters will perform after dinner and a school tour is planned highlighting the new administration building reception area and recently completed swimming pool.
The pupils of Mrs. F H Stallknecht present a piano recital at 7 30 Friday night June 3 in the Brookshire School auditorium. The Katy High School graduation honored 41 seniors with diplomas in a school auditorium ceremony. Valedictorian Jo Beth Camp and speaker Val Jean McCoy framed citizenship around respect, reflective thinking and personal responsibility, urging constructive critique of institutions.
Gordon Fussell becomes proprietor of Katy Warehouse Co on June 1. He will run the seed rice cleaning and storage business under the same name, sell fertilizer, culvert products, and plan a new office with seed rice testing to aid farmers in Katy.
Donations of $1 or more to Miss Lolita Buchanan’s England trip via the Katy Fire Dept. qualified supporters for a record player giveaway. Pete Pederson was the winning recipient of the gift.

Fred Wiesner, Sr. organized the Brookshire Soft Ball League with teams from Katy Sealy Frydek and Brookshire. A June schedule for a first round was set for Monday Tuesday and Thursday. Brookshire beat Katy Rotary 17 to 7 with Dale Faulk the winning pitcher and Henry Kitzman pitching in the fourth. Brookshire also opened with a 6 to 4 win over Katy Methodist.
Brookshire and nearby teams host a June through May schedule at Brookshire Lions Field featuring Brookshire Katy Methodist Katy Rotary K C Sealy Sealy Ramb lers Frydek and Katy Methodist matchups with dates from May 30 to June 380 and home team notes for reference.
The Brookshire Assembly of God sponsors a pastry sale on Saturday June 4 at Shearer Feed Store from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Subscription renewals urged today.

A newly completed Katy water well was being washed out this week, pumping water at 650 gallons per minute. The clear water near the Skeet Poorman home drew eight children who waded, floated boats and pulled a wagon through the stream.
Effective Monday June 6 the pool will be open only to Katy Schools pupils and to adults residing in the Katy School District. Admission costs 15 cents for pupils and 80 cents for adults. Swim blocks include 10 00 11 30 beginner girls and boys, 2 30 3 30 Grades 1 6, 4 00 5 30 Grades 7 12, and 7 30 9 30 high school and adults with parents allowed to join.
