Katy ISD Hires Attorneys to Collect Delinquent Taxes

At a Katy Independent School District meeting on August 1 the board contracted Merrill and Eckhardt to collect delinquent taxes. The attorneys are USPS District Attorney staff with tax experience. Houston city attorney former helper. Delinquencies are small but aim to current the tax roll. payments prompt avoid extra costs.

Mrs Hodge’s Daughter Seriously Injured

Mrs Hodge returned home from Port Lavaca where she had visited daughter Mrs James F Anderson who was seriously hurt in an automobile crash near Tripoli Calhoun County last Wednesday. She suffered skull fracture three breaks in left arm a broken pelvic bone and multiple other fractures. If she improves she will be moved to a Houston hospital for bone surgery within a week. Her husband escaped with only slight injuries.

Katy School Opens September 5 1950 51 Term

The Katy School will begin the 1950 51 term on Tuesday September 6 with an official calendar: opening day September 5, Thanksgiving holidays from November 28 to 24, Christmas holidays end December 22, resumption January 2, Easter holidays March 28 26, Baccalaureate May 20, Commencement May 22 and end of term.

School Health Checkup Urged for Children

Round up of children who will attend school this year urges smallpox and diphtheria immunizations and a complete health check by a physician and dentist. Brookshire School offers the service under Dr J J Hopkins supervision. Children should attend Tuesday August 22 and Friday August 25 at 1 30 p m for checkups, arranged by the local Parent Teacher Association.

A small crowd watched Brookshire Lions fall 4 3 to V F W in a one hour three minute contest. Kocurek took the loss while McDonald earned the win. Ewing and Plocheck drove runs for V F W and Brookshire committed four errors with three by V F W.

Funeral Rites Held Friday for Mrs. E. W. Brand

Mrs. E W Brand died after a lingering illness at her daughter’s home on August 9. A Katy resident since 1899, she was born in Unionville Iowa in 1883 and married Thomas Brand in Centerville Iowa in 1899. Funeral services were at Katy Baptist Church with interment at Magnolia Cemetery in Katy.

Lions Win Benefit Game In Katy P T A Fundraiser

The Brookshire Lions defeated Katy Rotary Club 13 to 6 in a charity game. Pitchers were Tommy Cox and Walt Egger, with home runs by Garrett Cox Youngblood Rains and Greg Longenbaugh. Eva Watts said the fundraiser nearly met its goal for band uniforms.

Mrs James Morton Injured in Automobile Accident

Mrs James Morton was injured in an automobile accident on the Pattison Katy Cycling Plant Road Mopely afternoon between 6 and 8 pm. She was driving alone, fainted at the wheel, and is hospitalized at Memorial Hospital with two fractures of the pelvic bone and is resting well.

Funeral services held for Jasper merchant J. L. McMasters

Funeral services were held Tuesday for J. L. McMasters 62 a prominent Jasper merchant. McMasters lived in Brookshire as a youth and was the foster son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Crawford. Attending from Brookshire were Mrs. D O Martin Sid Martin Jack Donald Hope Cooper and Mr. and Mrs. Jon Hughes.

Friday August 11 sold 6890 barrels and pecs at about $8 while Magnolia sold 1800 barrels. Monday August 14 bids show Zenith at 750 barrels to 8.09 dollars per barrel. Zenith sold to date 22 units.
