Directors For County Hospital Meet Board Appointments Named

The county hospital board gains six lay directors alongside Dr. J. J. Hopkins, Dr. W. F. Walker, and Dr. W. K. McWilliams. Appointees are Charlie Walters, Raymond Ritchey, A. H. Brooks, Fritz Muckelroy, George Laas, and Humbling. The first meeting elected A. H. Brooks president, Ritchey vice president, and Muckelroy secretary-treasurer.

National Guardsman off Set in Houston Post

Frank Nolasco age 20 wrote the Postcard column in the Houston Post on Monday. He is among about 200 Houston National Guard members of the Texas 86th Division Second Battalion 143rd Infantry leaving for two weeks training at Ft Hood. Melbert Schlipf left from Rosenberg with the group and Melbert departed Friday morning to assist packing.

School Lunch Workers Institute Participants Named

Mrs Varley and Mrs Goode from Brookshire Public Schools are enrolled in the School Lunch Workers Institute at Southwest Texas State Teachers College August 25 to 31. Dr Willa Vaughn Tinsley announced the course will confer diplomas on graduates and cover menu planning meal management food preparation equipment care and record keeping.

Cousin Bob Rodgers Releases New Record

Cousin Bob Rodgers has a new record titled Lonesome Freight Train Blues backed by Cloud Corral. Mrs Rogers operates a Brookshire shop and closes each Tuesday to place orders and stock special requests.

Cannon Ball Found Near McCauley Farm Field

John England reports a 3 inch cannon ball unearthed by a plow in a flat field east of the McCauley farm. Warren Cooper recalls that area as the first cleared site. The item prompts local Texas history speculation about Santa Anna's use of the cannon.

Former Pastor to Preach in Brookshire Vacation Service

Rev. G. Z. Sadler longtime Methodist Church Brookshire pastor for nine years will serve as guest preacher during Rev. Larry M. Stokes vacation. Sadler retired last January. Stokes and family leave for two weeks and return for services September 10.

Pvt Leister Writes Parents From Korea Front

Pvt Charles Leister, of the 24th Infantry, sends his first letter from the Korean battlefield dated August 6 arriving August 18. He enlisted August 21, 1948 and went to Tokyo a year ago. His father, Marvin Leister, recently joined Brookshire Motor Co. as a mechanic.

Visit to San Jacin to Battlegrounds Highlights Ferry Ride

Mr and Mrs Louis McCauley and Danny accompanied by her parents Mr and Mrs Rutland and Joan visited the San Jacin to Battlegrounds. Danny recalls talk of the biggest battleship in the world riding on a ferry and passing through the Washburn tunnel.

Family on Trial film shown at Evening Worship

A sound film strip titled Family on Trial will be shown at the shire Evening Worship Service next Sunday evening at 7:30 at the Methodist Church. The drama follows two brothers from similar homes and contrasts temptation with character as a jury member recalls sentencing one to prison. The public is urged to attend.

The First Baptist Church at Brookshire completed a two week revival with strong turnout. Conversions reached 17 with 7 added by letter or statement. Three youths surrendered to special service and many rededicated or pledged to tithe. Rev. G. A. O'Quinn led the revival.

Local residents enjoy varied outings across Texas

Louis Gray and family spent Sunday on Galveston Beach with Mrs. Gray. Jerry England, a Palmer School of Chiropractic student, visited Brookshire. Max Wander attended Shrine Patrol events in Shamrock and Dallas, Houston stops for shopping. Numerous women visited Hempstead and Houston for social outings and shows. Cousins of Tom Gassner hosted visiting relatives from Secor and other towns, with multiple family gatherings noted.
