Brookfield Picnic Plans Include Clown Fun and Prizes

AKiwanis Park picnic will feature a kiddies program with a clown and balloon artist, bubble gum contest, games, races, dancing to a well known orchestra, and a movie finale. Brookfield shoppers receive tickets at 400 local businesses to be saved for prize drawing. The first prize is a Hot Point iron worth 240 dollars. If weather fails the event moves to the next Sunday. An Aug 28 ice cream social is set at St Barbara’s parish school hall from 3 to 8 p.m. в

Hubka Funeral Rite Held for Amelia Hubka

Funeral services for Amelia Hub Sa nee Hruby were held at St Barbara s church Tuesday at 9 30 o clock with interment at St Adalbert s cemetery. She lived at 80 Grand Boulevard and was wife of the late James Hubba and mother of Helmond G Edsie Smith Amy Walsh and Helen and James Huoka. She belonged to St Barbara s court No 28 Women s Catholic Order of Potesters Brookfield Camp of the Royal Neighbors Circle F093 Daughters of Isnoed and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary. The body was moved from Mansfield Funeral chapel to St Barbara s for the service conducted by Father Stokes.

Plan County Fair On Grand Boulevard

Brookfield Methodist church plans its annual county fair on September 6 from 1 to 10 pm at the corner of Lincoln Park and Grand Boulevard. Events include a palore trom bubble blowing contest led by Arch Bauer, puppet dancing, a puppet operated by church youth, and a Boy Scouts performance. Local society members organize entertainment and costumes.

Fishermen Return From Pelican Lake Camp With Big Pike

A party including Karelia and her two children returned from a fishing camp at Pelican Lake near Orre in northern Minnesota. They reported catching many northern pike with fish over 33 inches long, while a local boy from Tomer Brook field joined the trip and praised the camp’s well run operation.

Taken Ill Suddenly

Mrs. Vern Shillington of Grant and Madison avenues is recovering at home after ten days at Garfield Park hospital. She was taken ill suddenly and rushed to the hospital where her condition was once grave but is now improving though still too weak for visitors.

Brookfield Considers 1948 Tax Levy Plan

Village manager C Harold Fash announced a proposed 1948 levy with a 20 percent cut. The year’s total would be 135000, down from 150600 in 1947. Trustees received copies of the levy figures for discussion at upcoming village board meetings.

Brookfield Lions Club to Take 90 Boys to Cubs Giants Game

The Brookfield Lions Club plans a trip for 90 boys aged 15 and under to see the Cubs vs Giants game at Wrigley Field on Wednesday August 5. Six Lions members will supervise as two Bluebird buses transport the group from Giraffs boulevard and Fairview avenue, with departure at noon and check-in at 11 9 o'clock.

Congress Park Woman's Society meeting postponed date

The Congress Park Woman's Society for Christian Service meeting has been postponed until September 8. Mrs. Lawrence Gross of 1141 Ross Boulevard announced the change this week. The delay affects the annual meeting and other year’s business to be discussed on that date.
